“Ilya, look..." I hear my brother murmur, "The savannah… it’s- it's covered with blood!” I turn to him "Maree, what are you on about? The suns setting there is no blood." Maree always said strange things, saw things...things that never came true.

I look down at Maree, his frail body shook beneath my strong paws. The strong stench of blood from cubs and lionesses filled the air. "You were right Maree; the savannah is covered in blood."

The vision Maree had seen was true - he had slaughtered his entire pride in a fit of madness.

As the sun rose over the crimson savannah, Ilya paced alone with these thoughts. Suddenly, he caught a scent - two cubs, still alive, hiding in the tall grass. Slowly he approached and found a brother and sister, trembling with fear at the sight of him.

"I will not hurt you," said Ilya gently. "Come, we must leave this place. I will care for you now."

The cubs followed hesitantly as Ilya led them away from the scene of destruction.
