I know the news post says we won't get compensation for our herbs, but that ignores many users time and effort.

There was no advanced warning at all, leading to:
-People raffling high value items for herbs
-People buying up herbs after last years event
-People saving leftover herbs from last year
-People losing out on mass amounts of GB/SB

To be told that herbs are worthless for trading in less than 12 hours before the event starts has caused a lot of unrest and upset. After discussion on the Event post this idea was brought up:
Have a Herb Amnesty where you trade in your herbs for 5-10SB only during this event. It could be on the event page or in the Monkey Shop and it would be removed after November and not brought back next year, because we all know about the changes now.

EDIT: All other things you can buy for SB (even event items) can be resold for SB. Even if it's only available for this years November event it makes sense to be able to trade them in for a few SB.

EDIT 2: Suggestion from Locust
- For this month *only* herbs could be traded in for 10SB.
- After the amnesty they can be reduced to 5SB to be sold to the Monkey Shop year round (like other SB items).

This suggestion has 62 supports and 9 NO supports.

I agree that we should've gotten some news about this earlier instead of right before the event. I had so many herbs left over from last year (this month doesn't have many items I want) that I've never run out of nesting items and I still have quite a lot left. I don't really feed beetles so they just kind of sit there in my hoard. On the bright side I have nests for days, but otherwise they lost their value.

it is a pretty shitty thing to do honestly
"hey! those herbs youve been buying and saving up? theyre useless now!"
i feel bad for the people who did raffles with really good items for herbs

Definitely support. I managed to cancel my GMO raffle in time, but I've been buying herbs for a while now regardless, and I would like to at least get something back for them.

I think this would be a good idea.

It's worth noting that the herbs aren't actually 'useless'... they're still used in both quests for this year and for beetles, as well as nesting, so those are all valid, valuable uses for them.

I'm not going to argue if advanced notice would have been better or not, I'm starting to think that is an opinion-based thing more than a factual one- some would have benefited, others would not.

I just don't like that the word "useless" keeps being thrown about when people WILL buy the herbs for 5-10 sb each as nesting or beetle objects, so weather or not the monkey buys them for that much is almost a moot point, a band-aid on the sting of it.

the point is most people bought them for the event
so to most people, they are useless

@Rott, I never said they were useless, just mentioned that they are 'worthless for trading in' this year as you can only do three Piety quests a day and they won't all be herb quests.

I can see why people are saying the word useless though. There are an over-abundance of herbs that won't be sold because they can be found for free and they can't be gotten rid of unless you have a lot of lionesses to nest.
I no longer have any interest in breeding beetles (as I only kept them around to win herbs) and I already have enough white lion pelts and feathers for both accounts, so I have no use for my herbs.
I'm not sure who is going to buy over 1,000 herbs @5-10SB each from multiple players who have hoarded them, especially when currency conversion was a big part of the reason people collected them.

Another option is to have them count as amusement items for July perhaps? Even still, every other SB item has an SB resale value and it doesn't make sense to have herbs as the only item that can be bought and never sold.

Why are people no supporting? This is not fair to the players, it should be addressed. Support.

I do not support because I don't think that herbs are otherwise "worthless" (as previously stated in this thread), and because I think it should be anticipated that things will sometimes change abruptly and unexpectedly in a game that is still in the beta stage. Other online sim games in beta have had data completely wiped. The game is still evolving and in flux, and we shouldn't expect compensation for every change. Regardless, you can still sell herb items on your branch or on the trading post, and I guarantee folks would buy them for nesting (myself included).

@Ganymede, it still does not make sense that you can purchase herbs for SB but not re-sell them. Even Lion Meat can be resold for SB in the Monkey Shop, despite how unlikely it is that users will want to do so.

I've been on the site for roughly 3 years, we've never had a change this big to an event that made something obsolete. Even the January event having Leather Beetles did not make gathering SB for the event shop redundant.

I mean, they did say "when introducing beetles, we re-used herbs for them, mentioning to asking players, that we will edit November event 's mechanics when it's time." which implies that this was planned and mentioned to users back when beetles happened. So I mean *shrug* an official announcement would've been nice but whateves

I've seen people quote this but haven't seen it myself. Is there a specific post that I happened to miss or did I accidentally skip over this bit of info?

@Cia, without any hints in the official News posts, not many thought to ask specifically. If it was in the works back then we would have benefitted from being told to use up our herbs.
I personally would have had no problem with using up my herbs months ago, rather than going so far as to suggest to my partner that he raffles off some high value items for herbs (and feeling awful for doing so now that it has changed).

This is pretty much a solution that makes sense because of the bought for SB/sold for SB feature of every other item, and it also says sorry to all the users who cannot be in main chat at the same time as admins (due to timezone differences) and couldn't have known.

I am not asking for 20SB, or even 10SB.
5SB per herb (regardless of number of uses) is still high enough to make them worth selling to the Monkey Shop, but low enough that people won't buy herbs from the Beetle Grounds and resell them if it isn't the right one for a piety quest, for instance.

I have been raffling items for herbs for months in preparation for this event and never have I seen or been told of any official announcement saying herbs would suddenly become obsolete for this event. I suspected prices would be raised or some adjustment made to account for herbs being easier to get with the introduction of beetles but nobody said they were officially changing the currency and making them completely obsolete for the event.

I raffled many items I could have sold for GB. I think a pittance exchange rate of 10sb would be more than reasonable for the admin team to accomodate. Especially considering I was all set up to buy 15+ Giant Tortoises, which normally sell year round in the markets for ~2 GB each.
That basically means if they exchange them for 10SB each that I would get a grand total of 8000 SB for what had originally been worth over 30GB.

Also totally wrecks my plans for my Heir as I obviously will now be getting 15 or so LESS Torts than I had originally accounted for.

I support the change in currency and continuing improvement of the game, but not without some kind of heads up or compensation for major plot twists like this.
