It had been a few days since Mercurius vanished, disappearing into the wind one night just as surely as Moana had described his coming. But surely there had to be a reason. No good and healthy king left a thriving pride and a vast, protected territory for no reason. Mercurius had everything in the ancient glens, the adoration of a handful of lionesses, even the respect of a trinity of tigresses that stalked the jungles and visited him in the night. He had an obedient and loyal subordinate, a wise and affectionate confident, sired many cubs… Was this all not good enough? “I still don’t understand.” He spoke softly at Moana as they travelled together, scouring the very fringes of the territory their previous king had established. “There was no rhyme or reason—“ “There didn’t need to be one.” Moana was not afraid of cutting off her new king’s words. She had a respect for him, surely, as Mercurius probably knew what he was doing when he allowed Aristophanes to stay when the cub was found deep within the glens, lost and alone. Her age showed in her gait, the sway of her creaky hips and the sagging of her skin obvious. She only had a few years left on her, if that, but it was said that she was just as wise as Mercurius, and so he had taken her as a confident. She feared no king and no rival, but she was getting old and that was clear. “Mercurius comes and goes as he pleases.” She continued, her eyes fixated just ahead of them as they strode across the boarders of the territory. “He’s like ash in the wind. There’s no use in expecting him to stay in one place, and he’s not one for material possession.” “Do you think he went into the Deep Glens, then?” “Perhaps. If he went there, we will not find him.” And if he went elsewhere… well, it was obvious. He would never return. That seemed to quell any more questions Aristophanes had for now, both the new king and the old lioness quietly forging ahead, internal thoughts not making it to light. Doubt. Heartbreak. Betrayal. As they rounded the corner, it was Aristophanes who caught a tendril of the scent first. There were a couple, but what he could immediately pick up was a dominant male, and they were nearby. A brief glance back at Moana, her ears perked and eyes fixated straight ahead, told him that she smelled it, too. They pushed ahead and soon enough, came to the end of the thick jungle where the land seemed to drop off into swampy, humid forest. There was where he spotted them, a small group standing on the edge, as if they were waiting. ![]() |

There were no two ways about it; Aristophanes and Moana had travelled to the far reaches of the First King’s land, where the mountains of the Deep Glens sunk into marsh and the distinct scent of someone else’s territory began. Beyond this point, the thick jungle would no longer protect them. For Aristophanes, having remembered nothing else, found the idea daunting. Figures emerged just ahead, the faint silhouette and sent of two lionesses and something more reptilian. It wasn’t exactly difficult to disconcert from the surrounding scent of muck and humidity, one that become increasingly powerful the closer he got to the eastern territory. Mercurius, as he knew, had only spoken briefly of it. He’d described it as a land where lions were in more abundance, where trees didn’t grow as high and the grounds not quite as soft. A land, he’d said, that made a kinship with serpents. Mercurius didn’t speak much of it beyond that; they knew their territory, and the pride of the Deep Glen knew their own. Still, despite the inherit mystery in it all, Aristophanes didn’t seem too phased. Neither did Moana; she had seen the others on the east side in passing, usually when she took her long, meandering strolls with the First King to talk of subjects like philosophy. She lifted her nose to the air and took a deep drag, letting it out through her mouth. “Who is there?” The white lioness called out, taking a step forward. She had always been the fearless sort, very forward, especially in her age where she had very little to lose. She thought it strange that the two were sitting alone at the boarder of their respective territories, however. Where was their king? ![]() |

As the figures drew closer the larger lioness shifted ever so slightly, bringing herself toward the front of the two as if her own young canvas would be shield enough for the young lady. Lumina did not like bringing the young into matters of business, the adolescent should be running, training... enjoying her last days with her mother. Thoughts saught the image of the femme, dark circles beneath her eyes the elder princess' age was becoming more apparent by the day, canvas thinned through the last of her years. Lorelei was well over 15 years and by this point she'd lived a prosperous life and now had a beautiful daughter to carry her name... Recollecting the end of her own past life the female's claws shifted in soft floors beneath, remembering the pure agony which she'd first experienced... Azu had assured her, but it'd never been enough. The shift of the reptile down front limb brought the tall lioness once more to reality, blinking momentarily before the faintest of smiles was brought to facial features; the lioness' lyrics meeting her own ear drums. Who? The question boiled laughter within and while the lioness knew better than permit it she merely shifted, standing her full height once more obstructing the view of the adolescent. "Lumina Aprinde, confident of the King. This is Sylmitore, princess to the Avanti Kingdom..." A silken ballad penetrated the air as pink voids grazed the large lord and the elder femme, the two quite close now. "King Aristophanes... Congratulations on your new role; Our King would like to invite you to a meeting...our land, or yours, he speaks a great deal of the potential our prides could establish together...."Lumina continued her wording keeping herself straight and aware of each lion's movement, Sylmitore not speaking from behind though she hadn't expected much from the girl. __ Silver voids were set straight ahead as the silhouettes whom approached grew features, and soon faces. Sylmitore recognized when Lumina's body language changed, much like her mother's, in attempt to block the girl from a possible attack. Attack. The two did not seem a threat to anyone, really. Lips pressed in the slightest as the adolescent lioness stepped forward, smile penetrating lavender features as she'd allow the immortal to speak to the two, willing to give her own voice if absolutly needed. ![]() |

Moana had always been the more outgoing one between the old king and herself. They made an odd duo, and stranger still was that nobody within the pride seemed to know where either of them came form. When Mercurius was asked about himself, he always said he was from "many lands, far away" and left it at that. When asked about Moana, they'd both say that she came while chasing shadows. But now Moana was without her king, and left with a task she found daunting, herself. No matter, these two lionesses were the task at claw right now. Aristophanes looked over at her and grunted before his own grey-blue eyes traveled to the two just beyond his newly acquired lands. Their furs were adorned with shades of lavender, stark white just underneath. How interesting. He'd never personally wandered this far from towards the cusp. Moana looked back at the new king, a brow raised at Lumina Aprinde's invitation. Word had gotten out fast, hadn't it? Those damned monkeys probably chittered about it through the night. "Thank you for your kind words." It was time for Aristophanes to step up. "And your King's invitation. It would be an honour to meet with him." It was then that the cub, barely out of her adolescence peered out from behind the older lioness that Moana's features soften just a little, then turned her attention back to the new king. Aristophanes, in so far, didn't seem to have noticed. "And when would he like this meeting to take place?" Might as well start off on the right foot. He'd heard little of the King of the Avanti Kingdom, as Mercurius spoke in riddles that were difficult to understand. When he did speak, it was little to do with the surrounding areas, but instead of his own travels. ![]() |

It sounded, insofar, that they were to be welcomed by at least some of their neighbours to the East. The night of seemed to him as quite short notice, but did he sincerely have much else? No, the pride that he was now the helm of was quite... quiet. Peaceful in their own regards, and Mercurius had left it in a good state. So he accepted with a nod of his maned head and, as they left, he and Moana, too, turned to retreat to their own dense jungles to puzzle the ordeal out. When they had retreated sufficiently into the dense jungle, there was a tense air of silence about the duo until Aristophanes was the first to speak. "Will you attend." "No." Simple. Moana seemed to have barely thought of her decision, though Aristophanes afforded her silence until she was willing to elaborate further. And she did, after a few more minutes of mulling the topic in her head like a wet stone. "There is no need for the whole of the pride to be there. They will become acquainted with the Avantis in time." "Then who?" He wasn't daft enough to think Moana was suggesting he go alone, but he knew enough that she didn't want to go to see how he'd handle this one himself. Wise as she was, she would not live forever. "Try to forge more than one alliance. Kill two birds with one stone." "You're starting to sound like Jupiter." She never got to the point, always speaking in riddles, but at least Aristophanes got what she meant this time. "The Holy Trinity?" "They're no lionesses of your pride, but they're tigresses of the land." And so it would be. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - It was under the cover of night that four large bodies began to move towards the boarder once more, where earlier in the morning Moana and Aristophanes had met with two lionesses of the Avanti. There would be little fanfare and little applause; the new king had never been one for lavishness, in a sense. Following at his tail were three large cats with furs that could rival the sun, vibrant orange shades striped with black. They were no lionesses by any means, instead tigresses native to the land that the pride of the Deep Glen now called their home. Somehow, some way, Aristophanes had cajoled Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma into attending. Begrudgingly, they agreed. Bringing those who were not his own to this feast was a bold move, one that the Grand Seers refused to comment on save Saturn. Kriemhild would no doubt be infuriated that she was not to attend, but he'd tend to that once he returned. It was soon, in the distance, silhouettes began to form at the boarder. There was little hesitation as they approached, counting the glistening eyes in the dark. There would be a lot of trust placed that night, to wander into foreign territory and expect to not get ambushed. "Good evening." Aristophanes' voice was drawn out but soft, though not meek in manner. He stepped closer, the three tigresses that made his company remained silent and watching. ![]() |

Maiatria would not accept another female's stance beside the male whom she claimed as her own and as she awaited these new comers, gears of her head would quickly turn. Was Ragno considering an alliance? With each day the months were drawn nearer, the end of the king becoming prominent in slightly worn features, darkened circles forming beneath the lilac skin of the bestial lord. The female had been waiting for this, she and the two... yet now he opened the walls to outsiders? A possibility which the femme was more than just uneasy about...doubtful it'd benefit herself in the least, infact. The idea brought a bitter taste to the tongue of the girl and while she moved closer to the lord, pelting mixing with that of a much lighter lavender, she knew her place beside him would and could never be compromised, violet eyes meeting those of a fluorescent hue as the eyes of the immortal met her own. Having little reaction time before the sight of four was held before him the King's attention was on anything but his Queen's kind words, stepping forward as the approaching silhouettes became more apparent figures, the features of the King bringing what would seem to be a smile to the very features of Ragno. Soon, they'd appeared. Upon first glance the male had paid no mind to the three lioness who followed their lord and it was only once features were in view that jaw tightened in the slightest. Tigers? Uncertain as to why this male would bring such creatures instead of his own family was beyond the lilac king and it took a moment to shake his head free of the thoughts of fowl play, because cmon...what was this? Aristophanes' vocals drew through the air and the male's dome dipped in respect, "Good evening, we are pleased you could join us on such short notice..." eyes slowly grazed the four though features showed little emotion beyond the smile of their welcome, limbs shifting backward slowly. "Welcome to the Avanti Kingdom...I am Ragno Mephistopheles. My Queen Maiatria and consent, whom I know you've met...Lumina Aprinde. We have others eager to meet you, and a meal for plenty as I was uncertain who would be invited...I know venturing into an unknown pride with stories such as my own may be an undesirable beginning to your reign lord Aristophanes. However, I knew you would join us." each word was focused on the group as a whole, drawn out until the last sentence where vision was now focused on the King of the Glen himself, dome shifting ever so slightly to the side. If they would accept, Ragno would then move further in a retreat toward the pride land's; eager to set the night's events into motion. Eyes peered out at them for as far as he could see, reflective specks in the underbrush of the marshes with the smell of rotting plant matter and stagnant water in the air. Aristophanes almost wrinkled his nose. Almost. He was much more polite than that and, when the king of the neighbouring territory finally approached, he nodded his head a fraction in respect. "Pleased to meet your aquaintence, Ragno Mephistopheles," And then, with a turn to the lioness that accompanied him. "And yourself, Queen Maiatria." The three were the only ones to be introduced, and that he didn't mind. They must have been carried in some esteem or importance in that case, and he made note to treat them as such. "And we, the pride that resides in the Deep Glen, would be more than glad to join you for this meal." He nodded towards the three large, skulking tigresses that had followed him. Their yellowed eyes all stared on warily, they themselves having taken some great risk in following a lion into further lion territory. But it had been Vishnu who had finally agreed to it, and the rest simply begrudgingly followed. "This is Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma." He nodded towards each of the tigresses in turn, deciding that now more than ever was a good time to introduce them, as Ragno had done. Besides, it was better to do so, as it probably looked terribly suspicious in the first place to be bringing them. "They are no lionesses of mine, but they are strong allies and the ancestral guardians of the Deep Glen. Let us fortify our bonds, all at once." With that, he followed Ragno into the marshes that were his territory. His heckles stood on end, but his face remained calm as he followed the older lion into unfamiliar lands. Thankfully, they didn't have to wander too far and, in the distance, they could still see the tops of the jungle canopy that made their home. A great pile of carcasses piled up in the middle of what looked like an area of cleared out bush. The smell of bleed seeped deeply into the air, making Aristophanes take a deep breath. The ground would be stained red for days at this rate. How plentiful this land happened to be. "It looks like a glorious feast, Ragno." He commented, still gazing down on the sight. ![]() |
