Jenna, Jayla and Juno all arrived in N'dogo's land at the same time, being a trio of rogues. Jayla was a bit more laid back and didn't like to get into other peoples' business. She tried to insist to Juno that going into another pride's land even if they were very hungry wasn't a good idea. She couldn't imagine how angry the pride leader and pride members would be if they mooched off their prey. if anything, Jayla was afraid of other lions in the area.
Juno, considering herself the leader of the group, wouldn't hear any of it and she reluctantly followed them for she had no where else to go. Unfortunately for them, they were discovered bringing down a wildebeest by a lioness hunting party, who tore back to their camp to tell the pride males what was happening. A terribly loud and angry roar sounded near the trio's feast and not one of them budged for a few moments.
Jayla barely noticed their 'leader' female tearing away, leaving the two remaining lionesses in their fear. She flinched as two males arrived...until she saw N'dogo's small size. He was no bigger than she was! Was he full grown? She assumed the larger of the two was the leader until the smaller ordered the larger, reddish male to chase down the one who fled and left the other two behind.
"What're you doing in our territory? Trespassing? SPEAK!" N'dogo practically barked at the two. Jenna's lips curled back into a snarl, seeming to be ready to fight now that there was only one of him and two of the lionesses. N'dogo's own fangs bared until he roared again, this time shortly and sharply. While their ears were ringing, around 5 lionesses came over the hill to reinforce him. That ended the already non-existent fight.
"S-sir, please, we were hungry and we...we..." Jayla tried to spit out what she was saying, Jenna refusing to speak and say just why they were there.
"Stealing our prey is still a high offense!" N'dogo growled, L'reya stalking forward and getting into their faces.
"Just give the order and we'll chase 'em out for you," The lioness hissed. Jenna lashed out and in a split second, took off. N'dogo sent three of his lionesses after her to ensure she left the territory.
"S-sir please, I'll leave I promise! I won't steal any more prey, it wasn't my idea! I just..." Jayla stared at her paws. "I follow them around 'cause I can't survive on my own. I'm a terrible huntress, that doesn't do well with rogues!" She had already admitted this to herself long ago but hated to admit it to others as it was a massive sign of weakness. "I'm sorry. Do what you will then."
N'dogo was quiet for a few moments, L'reya's eyes narrowed as she stared down at the crouching lioness. She turned and spoke in N'dogo's ear for a few moments, the pride leader quietly listening.
"What's your name, lioness?"
"Jayla, sir."
"Jayla, on L'reya's behalf, we'll pardon your first prey stealing offense. Do you know where your two rogue friends might have gone?"
"I don't know...but knowing Juno, she may try to steal prey again. She has this thing against prides, I never asked why or what happened. Every time I do, she gets mad. You don't want to see her mad..." Jayla shuddered.
Moments later, Chalka returned and shook his head. He lost Juno.
"Help us find them. I may be willing to share a bit of prey, perhaps your own catch, if you can." N'dogo offered. Jayla's eyes lit up and she stared.
"R-really? Th-thank you sir, of course, I'll help!" She leapt to her paws enthusiastically. "Let's see now...I know Juno went off that way," she pointed with her tail, "but he's back without her...and I imagine Jenna can't outrun your 3 lionesses..." she pondered deeply. "What's in Juno's direction?"
"She was going towards the deep jungle. I haven't even been there honestly. N'dogo usually checks that out, he'd know it best." Chalka commented.
"Then we'll go. Chalka, go with her and make sure she is brought back." N'dogo ordered and Chalka dipped his head, flicking his tail for Jayla to follow him.
---------
"S-so...how long have you been in the pride?" Jayla tried to make conversation.
"Since I was a young adult. N'dogo is a fair leader." Chalka replied shortly, wanting to keep quiet so as not to spook Juno.
"Oh...well, we need to be careful with Juno. She doesn't like males for some reason, hence why she doesn't like prides...she'll do anyth-"
A blur of reddish gold and white tore onto Chalka's back, a struggle ensuing as he helplessly tried to get her off his back. She was tearing through his mane to try and get to his neck and deliver a fatal blow. Jayla could only watch in horror at Juno's ruthlessness. Before she knew what she was doing, the cowardly lioness bowled into Juno and knocked her off of Chalka. The two struggled for a few moments, Juno easily pinning Jayla down.
"You little..." Juno seethed, raising a paw to deliver a blow to Jayla's throat, the lesser flinching and awaiting her fate.
Juno's weight became nothing as Chalka pushed her away from Jayla and pinned her to the jungle floor, his sheer weight preventing her from even hoping to get up.
"Go, get help! We'll need more than two of us to get her back to camp! GO!" Chalka ordered as Juno struggled.
"Wh-what about-" Jayla began before taking off out of the jungle, roaring for all she was worth in distress. She had to get help and fast! She knew Chalka was hurt and feared he'd weaken before she returned.
--------
Thankfully, Jayla's roars alerted N'dogo on his way back to camp with Jenna being captured. He sent the three off to camp with Jenna and tore to Jayla's caterwauling position with his remaining two lionesses.
"What happened!?" N'dogo gasped as he arrived with Amii and Keyari on his heels.
"J-juno got a jump on Chalka! I pushed her off then he pinned her but Chalka's hurt! Come quick!" Jayla led the way as quick as she could to find Juno beginning to overpower Chalka as he grew weary.
N'dogo lunged and held her down, her throat between his teeth. Juno didn't dare move for fear of losing her life and went limp under his paws.
"Chalka!?" Jayla nudged him and he just groaned.
"We have to get him back to camp!" Amii pushed him to his paws, letting him lean on her. Jayla got herself on the other side while Keyari assisted in escorting Juno back to camp.
It was over.
---------------------------
Jayla knew she was a coward but she couldn't believe what she did to help Chalka and save his life. N'dogo formally thanked her and also invited her to join the pride. She was stunned and before she could think, she accepted his invitation.
Despite what her rogue friends had done, she pleaded on their behalf to give them a chance. What they would do was beyond her. N'dogo only agreed since he didn't trust either of them to just run off and leave his pride and territory alone.
Jayla didn't care that much. She only had hints of loyalty to Jenna and Juno now. Her allegiance was with N'dogo now. She was happy.
------
Mere months after she joined the pride, N'dogo fell ill unexpectedly. Jayla was horrified when the pride leader she had grown quickly to love perished before the pride. She was distraught, burying her head into Jenna's side as the rest of the pride was in distress until Lyler and Jeylar returned from their search for help.
Months passed after N'dogo's death and Lyler's rising to pride leader after Jeylar's mistake. She was rather oblivious to the mistakes Lyler made in his inexperience, loyally backing him all the way. When the time came for a pride vote, she voted for him to stay pride leader.
