Katerina - Krytonite's Queen! Originally from side account (#21238)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Katerina has always received looks. Whether it be jealous glares by other lionesses or the lustful gaze of a male. Her dark slate pelt, contrasted with the bright white adorning her chest, face and legs sends even the youngest cub staring. Yet all this attention does not make her vain. No, in reality; she loathes her looks and what everyone around her sees. Her looks have come to define her, and she hates it.
She wants no more than to be loved, to be greeted as a normal pride-sister. To be seen not as a beautiful lioness to be won, but as an exceptional lioness in personality and wit. A lioness who has more than the batting of her eyelashes and the smooth saunter of her hips.
Yet she is unlucky in her endeavors to find this kind of recognition.
Countless prides have been greeted by her aimlessly wandering form and all are excited beyond belief when she agrees to accompany them. All are devastated when she disappears that very night. None want her, truly want her. They all see this trophy before them, a bragging piece to add to their harem and she will not have it.
One evening, she slunk along the savanna, as aimlessly moving forward as a brittle leaf in the wind. Had she been listening, perhaps she would have noticed the subtle changes in mood. Perhaps if she had watched, she would have seen the scenery shift into that of an unforgiving, barren hole. Maybe, if she had paused to even try and figure out where she was, she would have scented that foul breeze nipping at the edges of her senses. If she done this, her fur would have risen, she would have run. She would have had a chance. As it was, her gaze remained unseeingly trained upon the grit at her paws.
She felt his breath before she felt his force. A prickling along her spine alerted her to an unknown presence but when she turned to see who it may be, she was grappled to the dusty terrain below. A howling snarl erupted from her throat before she could even register that she was on the ground. Struggling fiercely, her claws met uselessly against a formidable male with one blind eye. He was adorned in scars, his muzzle curled into a sickening grin.
"What have we here?" Even his voice was grotesque. It was deep, low and raspy. Gurgling emitted from his throat at each breath, his neck raw with healed over wounds. "Wandering alone, in my territory are we?" He had his paw pressed on the side of her ribs, sending shockwaves of pain through her whole body with each shift.
"I didn't realize..."
Her response was cut short as his other paw shot out, smacking across her skull and leaving her world swirling before her. She was only dimly aware of a wild, terrified howl that sounded distant as it came from her maw.
"Now you would make an excellent queen.." The dirty older lion hissed, leaning down to sniff at her neck.
Before she could even manage another wail, the male was launched off of her. Blinking back her initial confusion, she merely gaped as two males now grappled before her.
It had all happened so fast. Being attacked to being saved. It had all happened within minutes and when the new male told her to follow him, to run, she did just that. Fear made her trusting. Confusion clouded her judgement. So she followed close behind that newcomer until the stench was far behind and the soil sprouted green instead of yellow.
Only once they had calmed, once they had paused, did wary distrust cross her features. She flew sideways, sidestepping away from this new stranger. He was like all the others, she thought to herself.
But when his attention turned to her, when his gaze met her own, there was no lust. No admiration. No greed. What she saw in those eyes was something she had been searching for. Something she had craved yet dismissed to ever be found. His eyes, deep green eyes, held only concern. At that moment, she could feel herself swooning for the male who saw her as a living, breathing being.
They spoke long into the night and slowly she allowed herself to relax in his presence. They talked, they laughed, they smiled to one another. Quickly they bonded, but reality came much too fast. He had a pride. A home. Somewhere to be. And she was just another lioness. Oh how long she had been waiting to be seen as such, only to wish he saw her as more.
He turned to leave, his gaze locked onto hers. "What is your name?" His voice was soft with the underlying hint of sadness.
Katerina gazed into those green eyes. She could feel every fiber of her being reaching out to him, every moment of silence another moment she wouldn't have to spend without him. She hesitated to speak, to break this connection. Once her name was out there, he would have no reason to stay. He would be gone and she would be alone. Alone and special. Where she would rather be accompanied and common.
"I don't want you to go." The words were out of her mouth before she could even think and she could immediately feel her face go hot with embarrassment. "I mean.. I... I.."
His own eyes flickered with an emotion she couldn't quite read and the male turned away.
Panic seized her only to be replaced by bewilderment when he turned back to her. "Join me!" His response sent jolts of excitement through her, accompanied by the nagging voice in her head telling her it was a lie.
"Please." He pleaded, when her gaze grew distant. "At least accompany me to my lands... Miss..."
"Katerina."
She joined the male, who later introduced himself as Krytonite, to a distant land. Here there were more like her. These new people looked at her with respect. They spoke to her because they wanted to. They laughed when they were joyous. They smiled to be friendly. There were no underlying intent here. And she loved it.
Here their relationship only flourished. Until the fateful day he asked Kat to be his queen.
With a blooming heart and a lovesick smile, Katerina gazed at this male before her with a grin. A real smile. All she had been looking for was a friend. Anyone to see her as Katerina. Instead she had found her love. Her one and only true love.
"Yes."
