Xanthe

Amaranth and Xanthe were born to the Diotima Pride, a quite traditional and formal pride of lions that abided by ancient laws set out by their ancestors. It was believed in the Diotima Pride, that once a new male ascended to being the leader of the pride, the pride must start afresh and begin an entirely new era. There would be only one male, and his rule was final. Luckily, up until Amaranth and Xanthe's birth, the leaders of the Diotima pride had been quite forgiving and kind.
Amaranth was a little older than Xanthe, but they were the only two cubs in the pride at the time of the change in leadership, and thus were close friends. Amaranth was sharp and intelligent, if a little snappy, whilst Xanthe was quick and agile, albeit a bit immature. The two balanced each other out, and made a great team. However the time would come when a new male took the position of leader, and he did not take kindly to cubs that were not of his blood. It was evident there would be no change in tradition as of yet. Unfortunately, and inharmoniously, this meant that all cubs born to any male aside from him, be banished. Both Amaranth and Xanthe had been born to rogue males. The pride females and the cubs were shocked and appalled, especially when both cubs showed so much potential. But the new leader was a paranoid lion, and he feared they'd rebel against him as they grew...both girls had spirit. Too much for his liking.
For fear of being chased away or killed, Amaranth and Xanthe left their pride together, and lived as nomads for a few months. They were convinced they'd live this way forever, until they were found by Nyke of the Isacio pride. Nyke had been on her patrol, and as Pride defender was taken aback to find two cubs wandering on the Isacio territory. As unforgiving as Nyke could be, she brought the two to Zenon and Karis, who were yet to have children of their own, and took an immediate fondness to the helpless cubs. They brought them into the pride, and trained them to be a skilled hunting team.
