Name: Laney is named after her mother, Lanesi, who was in turn named after her mother, Larika. Laney means "path" or "roadway" in English. Larika was a copper beauty who came to Peremimo's pride pregnant, and gave birth to vandal-colored twins Lanesi and Lahin. Larika left the pride again not long after her cubs were weaned, leaving them behind. The male Lahin was allowed to remain in the pride for a few years as a subordinate male before he was finally chased off. Lanesi remained in the pride until the time of her death, becoming one of the most experienced and prolific hunters. Laney is being groomed her whole life to take over her mother's place, as she is the last cub her mother will have.
