Dalatria. The great-great-granddaughter of wise King Ism, her mother torn from her grasp at a mere three years of age. By far the most plain-coated lioness, Dalatria was no fool, and knew that she only stayed because of her lineage - a direct descendant of the King! The only one still living in the pride.
On her fourth birthday, Ism came to her. He said that she was to mate a male by the name of Thor - the brutish son of Orezati. She grew afraid, but would not deign to show it. Such emotions do not befit a princess.
When she met her betrothed, he took her throat in his jaws. She could scarcely breathe, could only stare into green eyes much like her own. Her mate was a fearsome one, and yet she found she loved him.
Years passed, and her betrothal was shattered by Thor's transformation. It was forbidden two lionesses share pleasures, and yet she caught him... (her?) with Falidron more often than not. It was alright with her, she HATED him, she.... hated him.
Such is the way.
She kept her eye on Thor for years, until the sting faded when he looked at her, until they could speak at least with a degree of civility. Her attentions turned to Kalahad, the next King, whom every lioness knew was unmated since Alesia died. The big brute was nervous from all the attention (especially since the King grew old) but it was only she... she and that feather-headed girl from the Sentricks who he spoke to. Dalatria grew jealous when he turned away from her, to the foreign girl, and ran to her King in the dead of night. She told of Thor's tastes, of Kalahad's desires for a lioness who had no royal blood. Ism listened, barely interrupting save the time she mentioned Simho... then his face darkened and he swore aloud.
"Damn that lion! I told him to stay away from her." he shouldered Dalatria aside, and she was suddenly very afraid for Kalahad, and a tiny voice told her she was worried for Simho as well.
Ism stormed through camp, shouting, waking all the lionesses from their slumber. He dragged Simho by the scruff to the middle of camp, blustering in his rage. Kalahad watched as the King took her, then and there, in front of everyone. He did nothing, and Dalatria saw Simho's anguished eyes.
Kalahad was hers.
From then on, he wouldn't go near the other lioness. Dalatria cooed and fawned over her mate (Ism had as good as promised him to her, that night in the rain) and Kalahad accepted her affections. He seemed to withdraw into himself, but that no longer mattered to Dalatria. She had won, she had beaten the rivals and she stood as the most logical Queen once Ism died. It would not be long now, she could TASTE the crown on her head. Moons, and she would command the prettiest lionesses - she, whom they had once called ugly! How the tides had turned.
Dalatria smiled wickedly. No, it would not be long now.
~~End of King Ism's Reign, 01/14/2015
~~Beginning of King Kalahad's Reign, 01/14/2015
They were mated on the Day of Songs, the crooning voices of the lionesses rising high only to shatter and return to the depths, like a swell, like a storm. Kalahad was, perhaps, the most handsome lion she'd ever seen - his bluish fur stood out sharply before the Goddess, and her own nut brown pelt looked nice next to his. A bit simple, maybe, but nice.
Kalahad repeated the words that swore him to her with little inflection, but she saw the bitterness in his eyes, in the tense lines of his mouth. She chalked it down to nerves, but her heart knew better. It gave a nervous flutter, there in her chest, but she squashed the feeling down. She would be Queen, and that's all that mattered.
She repeated her lines, and then Kalahad was above her, his shadow drawing cold air on her face. She felt warmth, and life, and when he completed the ritual the song crashed over them both like a crescendo.
That night he did not return to the Kingsden.

Before long, a moon had passed, and when her heat scent did not wash around her in familiarity she was overjoyed. A run to the Goddess, in the dead of night, the whisper of her King slipping away with another lioness- and Goddess confirmed that life flourished in her womb.
She was the first to announce new cubs, but she was not the last.
The High Queen came next, with a look of baleful disdain shot towards her royal husband. Ah. That litter would bear watching - if a son was born, he could well be named Kalahad's heir. That would be disastrous, both to her and the lives of her cubs. After all, Shalo was Ism's Queen, and her royal blood would pass to her cubs.
The pair Kessa and Skygaze were soon to announce royal births of their own, followed by Falidron. None of them could harm her or her cubs, therefore, she let them live. Thor's belly grew rounder every day, and finally even Simho's. Her husband had been busy, it seemed, but she did not begrudge him his fun.
