The Prophetess Marieth

The Prophetess Marieth has joined Azizi's pride, offering to interpret signs in the weather and ground. Azizi figured she could be of use to the pride--locating herds and such--and so allowed her to join. But along with the odd-colored lioness, the pride has acquired a ostrich, Marieth's pet. Despite his clumsiness and... well, derpiness, Azloth is a good helper for Marieth. The Prophetess is stern, never allowing a mistake to slip by. Yet when the sky is clear she can often be found playing with the cubs and adols. She's taken a particular liking to Amiri Jasiri, defending the adolescent as Azizi mocks him. Besides the heir, Marieth usually encourages Sanaz's shy little cub to go out and explore, despite Sanaz's instinct to drive the odd Prophetess out. Marieth claims to be nowhere near as good as the nomadic shamans, yet most say she's better. For one thing, she is accessible to everyone--not like with the shamans, whom only Azizi can visit.

As Azizi grows older and, sadly, more absent-minded, the Prophetess Marieth has taken on the role of guiding the pride. She would never claim to be the queen, but many regard her as an important part in the life of the pride. In particular, the young prince Amiri Jasiri has come to see her as something of a kindly aunt, or a stern grandmother.
