In all glory. Doing her work. Matope is Swahili for 'mud.' She was born to one of Joka's first lionesses, Theluji. As the sorceress and spiritual leader of the Joka den for two generations, Matope and her snake, Parens, conducted ceremonious birthings, funerals, welcoming new members and severing those who leave, and, finally helping to choose a king and running his coronation. She also studied the sky and sometimes, after long meditation, would provide hunting details or warn of upcoming storms, even with no indicators by weather or scent. Sometimes, her eyes had a strange glow... Because of the Tochi Den's close kinship with the Joka Den, Matope occasionally took an escort over and performed mass ceremonies to make up for their lacking of a powerful sorcerer. At 15 years and three months, she took Kosa (her junior by 13 years exactly and the great-granddaughter of Matope's own elder sister, Baridi) to study as an apprentice and quickly began her teaching, knowing that death was riding the winds.
