Sired by a Savage king of a far off land, Savo was born into the Mbawa Usiku pride after his mother, Dehlia, escaped from her former mate. Kirrin, unable to produce any heirs of his own, declared that Savo would inherit the throne, much to the honor and shock of Dehlia. From cubhood on, Savo spent every day rigorously training to fulfill his role. Under the guidance of his mentor, Sol, Savo grew into a strong, capable young lion. There was no challenge he wouldn't face head on, and his loyalty to his pride was unquestionable. He would make a for a mighty king.

He never never was, though. As Kirrin laid dying, he pronounced that Makolo, Savo's younger brother, was to be his successor. Savo was hurt, confused, and above all, furious. The day after Kirrin's funeral, he challenged Makolo for the throne.
