" Welcome Cub to the Potato Pride. "________________________________________
Everything seemed so new to the lightly hued cub. Her eyes had only been open for a few months, five to be exact. Her mother seemed not to care for her much at that very moment as she tried so hard to push her into one of the passing prides. Was she not loved? Or was it because she would not be worthy of staying with her birth pride? She just couldn't figure it out.
Pride after pride she watched her mother try hard to give her to them. Odd, disguisted looks came from any lioness that looked her way. She felt so weak and useless. Even dirty, so very dirty. "Mother?" Silently she spoke, ignored. Looking away from where her mother was she watched as a pride of only nine lioness' approached. Around them cubs about her age or younger tumbled around thier legs playing. She wanted so much to join them. Join in the game her mother never allowed her to play with the other cubs of their pride.
Slowly the pride she had been watching walked past them. Once more she was left to only dream but this time with no image to go by.
"Hello small creature." A soothing almost elderly voice sounded from beside her. Jumping she looked over swinging herself to face the voice. Her eyes could not believe what she saw. A enchanting lioness stood before her. Her coat black as the moonlit sky, eyes deep as the Savanah plains.
"Oh! Hello." Her mothers voice sounded. The hopefullness in it made her fragile heart sink.
" I couldn't help over hear that you wanted someone to take this cub. Is something wrong with it?"
"Oh no, she is completely healthy." Openly her mother insured.
" It's just her father... He was a savage male." In an almost whisper her mother finished. Looking over she could not believe it. Her mother was getting rid of her because she was ashamed of her father? Maybe she was wrong about that. Maybe just maybe it was something else.
" I see. My family does not judge one by who they were born by." In such a smooth, easing tone the enchanting lioness informed. " Actually, my pride is completely unrelated. Each and everyone of them being of different lines. Each accepting eachother as sisters or cousins. I am very ashamed of what you might have been taught though. Is it so shameful to have a cub borne from a savage? Or maybe you wanted one by a Razor lion who could easily poke your eye out with his mane. No, you would probally go for one of those nosey self concerned Regals. That seems very fit for you." Once the lioness finished small giggles came from the pride of lioness' and cubs she had been watching. They had not left! " I and my sisters would gladly take this cub. After all she already seems to have taken a liking to my pride." With a gentle lean she felt the lioness lift her from the ground with so much ease it seemed nearly impossible.
Once she and the lioness made it to the group of cubs and lioness' she was placed down. Around her the other youngsters surrounded her. Each and everyone of them asking soo many questions that she could not keep up. Searching the group she noted all of thier faces, all thier different coats. So different. Out of all of them she found herself staring back at the lioness who took her in. Will she be her new mother?
"Halima, we have enough cubs as is and you still went and took in another. Are you trying to hoard cubs to the point that we have to work over time to feed the pride?" Harshly a brown lioness hissed glaring at her.
Halima that was all she really caught in the conversation between the two, besides the harsh look of course.
Halima did not seemed faised by the annoyed lioness. Slowly she walked over to her pulling her near. " Because I chose to take you in I will raise you. With the help of the others." Halima hummed. " I don't think your mother gave you a name so I shall. In the ancient tradtion of one of my old friends pride I shall name you Lesedi. When you get older I'll tell you its meaning. But till then carry that name with pride." Lesedi. She loved that name with all her being. After all it was an enchanting lioness that gave it to her.

" A Pride filled of Cubs is just too Much sometimes. "
A full year is how long Lesedi had been roaming the plains with the ever growing pride. It seemed as though everytime one of the youngsters hit adolessance one of the older lioness' would run into a lone cub somewhere. Be it in the middle of hunting or just exploring for new land. It wasn't as bad as most would put it. Just crowded with how little land their current king Nio managed to get.
" Nabha, the little weed ate my share of last weeks dinner I Saved!" Loudly the voice of Navi screeched. Navi was not too much older than she was but she was slightly larger in girth compared to her. Though it wasn't Navi one had to be worried about, the real worry was her twin sibling Nani. First meeting them it was hard to tell who was who but as time went on you'd notice thier differences. After all one was dark and the other was lighter.
In such an anoyed mannor Navi shouldered past her. Snapping her out of her own thoughts. Clearly the panther printed twin was out for blood. On the far end of the shade of the dying tree the pride rested under, older Nabha laid. She was talking to Halima and the other eldest lioness she was yet to get to know. "Navi, you don't have to yell." Nabha huffed turning her gaze to the huffing and puffing adol. " It was
your adopted cub that ate it. So
you should be the one to fix it and repay what was taken." Bitterly Navi Grumbled , puffing up like an angry sand cat. Any and all that knew of Nabha's short patience knew that Navi was making a large mistake in telling the unspoken chosen High Queen what she
had to do.
Lesedi watched as the larger more masculine lioness rose from her spot, turning to stare down at the smaller steaming Navi. She could see from where she was sitting that Nabha flexed her thick upper limbs causing a faint flint of fear ride in the once confident Panther twin.
"What must I do?" Nabha challenged.
Silence.
Lesedi slowly made her way over to the now gathering circle of lioness'," You.. You must repay the food that your adopted cub took from me." Finally Navi spoke. A chuckle erupted from the high queen as though she found an extreme amount of amusement from the younger females words. " You are well old enough to go hunting with the next outing of hunters to get your own share back. It was a cub Navi, maybe once you've had a litter you'll learn how much they need to eat." Nahba began smiling brightly. "If its really a big problem why not take it up with Tau, maybe he will help you with your problem."
It took a few minutes for Navi to finally give up on the whole subject on Nahba's responsibility on watching the cubs she raised. After all it was Nabha who raised Navi and Nani when they were given to the pride by a nieghboring group. "Lesedi." A voice purred from behind her. It was SweetPotato. Of recent she had given birth to a small litter of cubs. Cubs in which the older lioness' took a few long days debating on wether they could stay and grow inside the pride, or leave and be raised by another group. "Oh, SweetPotato, I didn't notice you were back from the hunt. How was it?" Joyfully she spoke trotting over lightly headbutting the darker feline.
"It was like any other hunt. TaintedOne was bickering, Anaia was bickering at Nani for her impatience and of course Bhuna was smacking at them all to be silent and hunt." Laughter rose from the two. Lesedi could only imagine those selected lioness' doing such. After all most of the group that went this hunt never got along. Be it the way they raised cubs or the way one acted. It was just a basically bad hunting party to throw together."You at least caught something?" Slowly she asked. As soon as her words slipped from her maw she saw defeat in the older cats eyes. Clearly once more the pride was to go hungry. "It's fine, you and the others will have luck next time." She attempted to break the sadness in the air but it seemed to fail as even SweetPotato was trying to smile.
"I hope so. We have more cubs than lioness'. If we can't provide for the older cats then how can we possibly feed, even produce more to exspand the pride?" SweetPotato's tone wavered from annoyance to complete worry. In which was understandable since half the cubs were the ones she had been raising. " It will get better, I know it." Was all that Lesedi could possibly say to the huntress before she had to leave the savage blood teen.
"Halima." Lesedi whispered later that evening as the rest of the pride slept around them. "What is it dear? Are you hungry, or maybe thirsty?" She couldn't help but smile at the onxy guardians motherly worries for her. Letting off a tiny rumble in her throat she leaned sideways leaning against the older cat. "Why is it that everytime the pride lays to rest we have all the cubs around us?" In a hushed voice she questioned pointing out the clear swarming of cubs around them both, many leaning against her as though she had raised them herself. "Ah, don't worry you are just easy to approach. The air around you is tension free from all the stress the pride is currently going through this dry season." Halima hummed before resting her head once more on the dry ground.
It was not just the cubs that bothered her, Tau was gone. Nio seemed to place so much power on the sub lion even though he was not the king. Not like any of the lioness' bred with Nio anyways. A few of the other lioness' even admitted they would sneak off to find a mate in the hopes of worthy cubs of the pride. Though of recent the cubs actually being born in the pride was not as impressive as one would think. From the smell the cubs gave Tau was not the cause even though many wished he was the king instead of Nio. The disapointment is what Bhuna calls Nio. Hence why it was the queens that ran the pride.
Lesedi did not know how much she or the pride could handle with the current cub count, hopefully the troubles will pass soon. After all it was now harder to feed a single mouth, too many cubs was begining to become the families downfall.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
" A new sub joined the pride today."
Chatter echoed around the open space between a gum tree and one of the fat trees, something was causing the other lioness to squeal and fawn. Lesedi slowly made her way over pushing past all the others who were creating a wall to the middle of the circle. Reaching the middle she could not believe what she saw; A completely onyx lion. His eyes were stern just like his posture, clearly he was pampered before he came to the group. His lack of scars showed it. "Easy ladies, this is nameless. He will be staying with us so this won't be the last time seeing him." Tau's voice erupted from the tree just above. Something that was rare for a lion to do, clearly not him though as he just laid on a thick branch watching the crowd sworm around the young male he brought home."Tau, where did you find him?" Finally she called making her way to the base of the tree, sounds of the others pestering the nameless one filled the background. " I did not find him, I made a trade with a pride a few lands over. Clearly he was the jewel of that pride." Tau's voice seemed off. Was he unsure of the new males personality or was he worried the lad was spoiled to the core where he would not listen to the older male? Only Tau knew what he was thinking and clearly he did not want her to understand it.
Once the crowd died down and the lioness' went back to their daily jobs Lesedi found herself left
alone with the new sub. His scent was filled with hints of floral as though he was constantly bathed in it. His coat glistening in the suns rays, he was exactly what his pride thought he was;A jewel. She couldn't help but side glance at him, studying his every feature even the way his chest expanded and recoiled as he breathed. She hoped he did not notice her stairing as he sat close to her. Sliding her gaze up her heart froze, he was staring at her unfaised by her obviouse embarassment. Thier eyes held eachothers an odd feeling tingled inside her core. "Grimm." His voice shocked her. It was deep for his age holding only a tint of warmth that was dying in what seemed like a freezing heart. "What?" She recollected wanting to hear his vioce once more. "My name was Grimm in my pride before this one. That Tau character renamed me." He spoke slowly still looking dead at her. Lesedi only flashed him a smile," Lesedi, my adopted mother Halima gave it to me the day she brought me into the pride." Once they began talking they could not stop.
She spoke to him about how she came to be as he spoke of his pride before them. They spoke of what it was like to be one of many who would have to sneak off to mate with another male because Nio was not worthy, at least that was what the other lioness' said about him. Thier talks carried on till they found themselves laying on the dry floor of the savanah her back pressed against his stomach as sleep began to creep inside the two. He was warm pressed against her. A sort of comfort was found in him that she knew the others would find odd or not right for a female her age. In that moment she did not care much of the gazes she would get found resting beside the new male. It was not like she would ever be allowed to mate with him so there was no sence in worrying of the impossible.
