The word is full of opposites. Earth, Sky; Lion, Hyena; King, child; Light, and Darkness. Everything exists in a balance, the sun to hide the night and the night to give rest from the solar fire. But what happens when there is no balance? When one thing exists that is superior to its counterpart? Chaos will reign, bearing its sharp fangs upon the world. Which is why, at the beginning of time, the Creator made guardians - harbingers of peace, and destroyers of light. Each species has two - one good, and one evil, to guide the children of the earth, and to continue the precarious but blessed cycle of life and death. These Guardians cannot be killed by old age or disease - only the killing blow of another Guardian can unbalance the cycle. Yet even in death, these fantastical leaders will be reborn.

This is the story of Taevas, Keeper of the Heavens, and rival of Hävitama, the Destroyer.

Kanento:kon met Taevas on his deathbed, an aging, frail old king with no living heir and no hope in his blind eyes. The young lion had lowered himself down, touching his nose to the elder's face, a single tear falling from his celestial eyes. The two conversed, and the Guardian explained how he had felt the presence of his other half, Havitama, not far from here. He told the other of mystical prophecies and of forces far above this realm of existence.

Kanento:kon was silent at first, before he too began to cry - tears of joy at the revelation that his wayward son was still alive. Gladly he told Taevas of their tribulations as a family - of how the young lion had been cast out after an attempt on his father's life. Grief soon overcame the tired king. He closed his eyes for the last time and fell into eternal slumber.

Taevas could not stay behind. Even though the pride was defender-less and afraid, he had a higher purpose - a balance to maintain. Havitama had to be found, his purpose revealed and his powers awoken. The harbinger was not meant to be a king, much less a father. Yet though he told them to stay behind, the pride of lionesses had continually pursued him.

Eventually he got used to the idea. And though he took no mates, he protected them from outsiders and rival kings eager to prey on the weaker, unmarked adolescents. In time, he would eventually have to leave them - but Taevas had not seen any sign of his celestial Brother, and so for now, everything was as it should be.
