Brown (European Wolf) - Caden
Red (Maned Wolf) - Evelyn
Of all the animals Buckthorn ever raised, Caden was the one he was most proud of. Found hiding in the roots of a tree, Buckthorn had took him in after his litter mates had been killed by Vultures. It was only some time later that his pride had found the poor pups mother, dead from starvation after a kick from an equine had broken her jaw. Buckthorn had seen the same wounds on many a poor beast in his time, including one of his own Bucks some time ago who, tragically, had passed away.
One day, while everyone had gone out, Caden was playing with some of Buckthorns other rescued playmates when Hyena's entered the pride and had began tormenting one of their very pregnant Does. Caden sat cowering in the bushes until one of the Hyena's had lunged forward and grabbed the leg of Strawberry, the helpless doe, and had begun to pull it away. Caden then sprung out and attacked the Hyena. So startled by the presence of a young Wolf, and assuming its pack must be close, the Hyena's left the pride immediately. When Strawberry told Buckthorn what Caden had done some while later he was so impressed that he rewarded Caden like he would any male lion that had done good, a spot in the Patrol and was to be trained by Buckthorn most trusted Sub, Bigwig.
Bigwig and Caden hit it off almost instantly. They were great together, being both caring male who needed to prove themselves. Bigwig watched Caden grow to be a beautiful male who was trustworthy and strong. However, Caden was soon taken over by the same unbearable desire to mate like Bigwig had been. So Bigwig fought Caden and after their match, took Caden for a walk with his loving mate Fiver, the blind one. Caden hadn't expected to see Bigwig so caring and gentle to his loving mate. And once he had, he longed not to mate, but to have one. Bigwig talked things over with Buckthorn and both agreed to immediately start looking for another wolf for their lonely howler.
Thats when they found Eve.
Evelyn was a maned wolf from far across the plains. She was a loner when they first found her as well but she had two pups with her. At first they thought her a mother until they found that these were Hyena Pups. You see, Evelyn was a mute wolf, who had been injured some time ago, and had no doubt stumbled into this Hyena clan who had shown mercy on her. When they found her she was nothing more then a scapgoat, a lonely member who was treated poorly by everyone. But even when they tried to take her away, the clan fought back. Bigwig led the charge with Buckthorn right behind him to fight the clan, but everyone knew who Bigwig was, he was "The Hyena Killer" so this clan paid no heed once he showed up and gave Evelyn to them shortly after the death of their clan female. When they brought Eve back, Caden perked up with delight when he saw her. But then something strange happened, they found that this wolf thought she was a Hyena. Completely astounded by this nobody knew what to do at first because she didn't want anything to do with the lions.
Or Caden.
Buckthorn was wary of keeping her around but Caden stepped up and asked to deal with it himself. So they decided to let him. Caden took Eve out to the far Savannah where he told her to try and run away. When she did, just like he expected, she ran like a lumbering Hyena, uncomfortable for such a long limbed wolf. Caden was quick to catch up and after some frustration Eve began to treat it like a game; which was just what Caden wanted. By the end of the day she was running like a wolf, and playing like a puppy and when they came back to camp Buckthorn greeted them with respect.
They two are hoping to bring a litter of pups into their warren, which Buckthorn was joyed to hear, and Caden is happy to have found a loving mate and a forever home among the lions.
