Even since he was just a kit the pride leader, Eaglestar, has always been around him and his sister. Looking after the two of them and teaching them both about pride life. Blackkit wasn't nearly as attentive to their leader's lessons as his sister, Whitekit, preferring instead to go off exploring on his own. This caused a great deal of trouble for the pride at times because too often Blackkit would simply disappear to explore without anyone knowing where he went. Even so, Eaglestar never seemed to get angry with young cub. More often than not their leader, who was more like a father to them, was deeply concerned and worried whenever the young cub went missing and always relieved when he was found.

While he and his siblings were adolescents Blackpaw watched as his brother that he was very close to, who was named Shadepaw, left the pride. He was deeply saddened when Shadepaw left, but he knew that it's what his brother wanted to do, and though he was sad to see Shadepaw leave more than anything Blackpaw wanted his brother to be happy.
