Khavi was roaming new territory, along the old territorial lines where he had begun to retake lands once burned over and ruined... now reseeding and where new, strange white flakes fell... not ASH this time... but what? The others called it "Snuh" as did the men at the Nature Preserve, where they made strange fluffy balls of it on the walkway... and gave them eyes. and stick arms. and called them 'Snuh-men'... those strange flakes peppered the air and floated freely about, but none of them had yet begun to stick in the new territory, when Khavi's eyes fell upon a young lioness, in her first bloom of adulthood...
Rahawein was feeding on a large carcass, which at first he thought she must surely have taken from another... but she moved shyly over, and offered him space to share... So Elegant... and such a curious, amazing coat... the hairs shimmered a little, like the 'snuh' but not nearly as... stark? Less white... more like the stones the men called 'ohpaal'. He conversed only in the slightest way with the strange female- only to find that the carcass was brought down by HER claws, and HER teeth... such a kill- the marks there, before his eyes, to SEE... He was SMITTEN.
In Truth, Rahawein was also smitten. She was shy then, because she was young- chased off for being too headstrong and powerful for her own pride, for having too many sisters already, and for disliking the king in those lands. She had come northward, and in doing so, she found the strange, newly claimed area she had hunted in, this very morning...
...and while she had fantasized about how the fresh kill might taste in her jaws, and how warm in her empty belly... she had also begun to daydream of a beautiful king... perhaps dropped down from the twinkling stars, to her own paws, to rub against her own whiskers. ...but here was a sky-coloured king, a REAL lion, a grand male who was in his very prime... with the strangest mottling about his coat, that was as if the night sky were traversed by shimmering white clouds, broken and shot through with stars and galaxies...
She fell in love with those kind, wonderful eyes, as well. Perhaps it was destiny, that made a young Lioness hunt in the very place this powerful King was also treading- or perhaps mere chance. Whatever it was, she was Grateful. And she was Happy, and she found her place- to her own surprise no less, among the new Pride there, as a Queen. Even over his own daughters, the trip of Princesses whom she found to be powerful huntresses in their own rights! A Pride she would be proud to call her own, forever.
