Mækir is the gift of one of my very first friends and mentor on Lioden, Lakaishia. When I was still very much a newbie, flipping trades in primal and piebald cubs from the Trading Center to gain currency, she took me beneath her wings to teach me her skills. In doing so, one day, she asked me to try to design her Leopon a new set of decor, seeing as I had been showing her my efforts on my own lions. Unnerved, but wanting to impress my mentor and help her beloved cat have something nice, I chose the Acacia Forest BG with Foreground Dry grass, fireflies, and some butterflies so it matched her pelt. It was like she was camouflaged - a real leopard. Laka was happy and pleased, and kept it the very same the rest of the time Mækir was in her possession.

Mækir is a word with an incredibly historic background. It is Old Norse, and means, “Sword.” It is pronounced MAC•EAR. (Although, this being said, I choose to pronounce it with a Long A Vowel Sound rather than a Short A Vowel Sound, which makes it sound like MAKE•EAR.) Possibly derived from Proto-Norse ᛗᚨᚲᛁᛃᚨ makija /mākija and/or from Proto-Germanic mēkijaz. It was used for male children’s names. (Mac’s vowel sounds more masculine than May’s when spoken, hence why I choose the Long A pronunciation.)
