Nikki was born stubborn, and sinister, and selfish. Her mother Charisma was distraught, confused as to how her own cub could behave in such a manner when she herself could never imagine doing such things! She was a loving, nurturing lioness who treated everyone with the same respect and care, and yet Nikki couldn't care less if it didn't benefit her in some way. Charisma prayed day in and day out for her daughter to have a change of heart, to become the beautiful and sweet creature she knew she could still be, but all seemed lost... until he came along.
Nikki was put in charge of babysitting the cubs while they trained. She hates having to take an order, but it had come directly from the king, and she knew better than to refuse. She was laying on a tree branch overlooking the training field, watching the cubs frolic, wrestle and race, when she spotted something odd. One cub in particular was practicing his stalking, crouched low and moving in a surprisingly swift manner, but while his performance was impressive that's not what caught Nikki's eye. There was an audience forming for his little show, and they were all females. The young lionesses were cooing and fawning over the dark colored boy, commenting on how his spots must give him cheetah powers or some other nonsense. She snarled, dropping from her branch and padding over to break up the crowd.
"Get back to training, you lazy brats!" She growled out, her adolescent voice making her sound both angry and whiny at the same time. The girls all whimpered and pouted, but none dared to defy Nikki's teenage wrath. After they all fled, she whipped her head around to glare at the boy who had caused all the fuss.
"What was that, pretty boy? Your fan club?" She sneered, stalking toward him as if she were going to attack, intending to scare him. He just lifted his disturbing pink eyes to meet her own blue ones, and she slid to a halt in front of him. He didn't even blink, just tipped his head at her slightly before speaking.
"Why are you so angry all the time?" He said, his voice sounding almost bored, and slightly raspy. She opened her mouth to make a cutting response, but he didn't let her. "You don't know, do you? You can't control it, you only know that you're angry. It's them. It's the Shades. But don't worry, I can see them. I can chase them away..." He took a step forward, and she took a step back.
"What... are you talking about, you freak?!" She hissed at him nervously, claws out as he approached her slowly. She wanted to turn around and run, but something was stopping her. Intense fear shot up her spine to drown her thoughts in terror, but still she couldn't budge. Her fear morphed into rage, and she lashed out at the cub, yet just before her claws opened up his face, her paw stopped mid-swing. What was going on? She wasn't in control of her body, she wasn't in control of her emotions, and while she wanted to be afraid all she could feel was a deep, blinding fury. Yet each time she tried to attack the cub, she was stopped by some unseen force. Eventually he backed her into a tree, and she was stuck now. Frozen, the boy came within a whisker of her, then placed his paw up against her chest, over her heart. All the anger, the hate, the fear, all vanished in a wave of warmth which radiated from that paw. Nikki was left panting and confused, but one thing was clear. Something had been controlling her, and that something was now gone, thanks to the spotted male before her.
"Wh-what just-" She was cut off.
"You don't wanna know." He replied, turning away from her to continue his training.
"Wait, what is your name?" She called after him.
"Forfax. Prince Forfax."
