Being a queen. It was her dream. Kavela looked up to royalty for the majority of her life. However , she herself could never reach that... As a leopon , it was hard to be even allowed among the lions. After all , she wasn't exactly a lion. She was half leopard. A cat that wasn't fully a lion could never become royalty in the eyes of her pride mates. But that didn't stop her from trying anyway!

As a cub , she was always playing in the flowers. She loved how beautiful they were. She loved the smell. She decorated her fur with the petals , sometimes even decorating other pride members with it. She loved to chase birds , as well! She loved making accessories of their feathers. She would wear them and pretend she was an important princess. Sometimes , some adult lions would play along as well. All bow down! Here comes princess Kavela! Despite the fact she was a shame to the king , most lionesses adored her.

As she grew , some older cubs told her there was a way for her to become royal. All she had to do was find a certain gem. A Rough Opal , to be exact. The cubs told her she won't ever be able to find it. Oh how she would show them! Kavela bet the cubs she could. She turned her back to them , flicking her tail as she left. Eager to make her dream come true , Kavela went on her journey , the cubs snickering behind her. She wasn't coming back anytime soon!

Fair enough. After three days , Kavela still hasn't found the gem. This was hopeless! Don't give up... She encouraged herself. Moving forward , she couldn't tell where she was anymore. But that didn't matter! She must find the gem!

Her surroundings were unfamiliar. It was rocky , and she had no idea where she was. She was surrounded my large walls. Perhaps... Perhaps she could find the gem? She must! Kavela climbed a bunch of rocks , finding a waterhole. Great! Water! She rushed down , not caring about the big , tough , lion next to her. Not that he cared much about her presence , although this was his territory. Kavela drank quickly , happy to finally have water. She only looked up once the mighty lion cleared his throat.

She looked up , spooked at the huge lion. Although she soon came to find there was no need of her to be scared of the lion. He seemed friendly. He introduced himself as Umik , king of this lands. Kavela was impressed by his huge posture and big , exposed teeth. And where was his tail? Umik wondered what a cub like her did all alone here. Kavela started explaining the story of how some cubs told her she could become royal by finding a rough opal. Umik started laughing before she could tell him she was out here for quite some time. Silly cub! Umik stopped laughing once he saw how hurt Kavela was. He apologized and told her to sit and listen , as he was going to tell her how one could become royal And that was in no way by finding a gem.

Umik explained that most royals were born royals. Some were crowned. That caught Kavela's attention. Before letting Umik speak again , she asked what she had to do to get crowned. Umik hushed her. Only lions that have done great things have a chance to get crowned. Or a king decides he likes someone. Disappointed , Kavela dropped herself to the floor. Great. She was lied to. And what's worse , she was lost. She wouldn't even be able to return with or without the gem!

Umik noticed her disappointment and offered to at least help her look for the gem. Kavela got up , still a bit upset. But she agreed. They both went looking for the gem , knowing it was not an easy task. Days passed , a lot of digging had been done. And then , Kavela let out an excited scream. She found something shiny! Umik rushed over , helping her dig it out. And at last , there it was! The rough opal! Kavela couldn't get any more happy. Finally , she could show them that she was able to do things! She was worth something! Carefully , Kavela took the stone from the dirt. Finally , she could go home.

Guided by Umik , she navigated back home with the gem carried along with her. She was really careful to not damage it. Umik watched her , trying not to laugh at her clumsy attempts of walking with the stone in her mouth. It was almost the size of her head! Umik offered to carry the stone , but stubborn as she was m Kavela decided to carry it herself.

At last , they arrived. Lionesses and cubs got up as they were surprised to see Kavela was still alive. Let alone come home with a big lion and a gem! Kavela went straight to the cubs that told her to find the stone. She dropped it in front of them , smirking. The cubs were clearly surprised! One mentioned she still wouldn't be a royal. Kavela responded that she knew. Umik had told her. Umik , who had already sat down behind her , nodded agreeing. Curious , lionesses and even the king gathered around as she and Umik started to tell the story of the short time they spend together.

Nowadays , Kavela still has to tell the story to others. A lot more lions has started treating her like royalty. She had gained a lot of respect from the pride's king. Kavela was happy she made the journey. She made her mother proud , got the king's respect and even gained a friend! Umik still visits every now and then. And the stone? Kavela still has it!
