Obi has lived in the desert pride for as long as he can remember. King Yonas Rescued him when he was just a cub, lost in a major storm. He may have accidently been left behind, he may have wondered off by himself, but no one will ever know but his mother. His mother who he has no memory of whatsoever. Yonas found him when he was traveling to the oasis near his desert cave, it was the short, two-four day long wet season and the dunes around the cave had received at least six inches of rain; enough to sustain life for the next six to nine months. The only reason Yonas even found Obi is because of his blazing orange fur, a great contrast against the tawny colored sand near the Sahara. He was cold and very hungry, not having nursed for days. Obi doesn’t have the greatest common sense in the lion world and instead of hiding like his mother taught him, as soon as he saw the big red lion he ran right over to him and began crying. Yonas, taken a back, at first growled at this little tiny male lion, not sure what to do. Eventually he decided he couldn’t just leave him alone and didn’t have the evil bones to kill the cub. “Little boy, what are you doing in my territory?” Obi looked up at the big male and just smiled, happy to have some company. “I don’t know, I’m terribly lost though mister!” Yonas couldn’t help but smile at the little cub’s adorable voice. “Well, son, what’s your name? Mine is King Yonas.” The cub’s eyes got wide and he bowed down at the king, “I’m sorry King, I didn’t realize.” Yonas realized this cub had been taught pride manners already, he was no son of a rogue lioness. This cub must have had a pride long enough to know a thing or two about how to act. “My name is Prince Obi.” So not only did he come from a pride, but he was an heir to a throne. King Yonas was very surprised and decided the cub was coming home with him. “Son, you might not be prince in my pride, but you have a new place to call home if you’d like.” Obi’s eyes lit up and he smiled as wide as the horizon. “Oh, King Yonas! That would be so amazing, I am grateful for your offer and I except!” Yonas nodded and proceeded to pick the little, itty bitty cub up by the scruff and take him home with him. Ever since that day Obi has lived as a subordinate male in the Desert Pride, maybe one day King Yonas will award him the throne, after all he is like his first son right?
