Yoruba for 'ears'.
2nd Gen.
Sister of Oju.
Mother of Pari.
The first mutation born into the pride, much to the sorrow of her mother, who has sworn to leave once the cub is old enough to fend for herself, leaving little Etí with her sister Oju.
The two are very close, and Etí often picks up on things that others can't sense, hearing herd movements from miles off, knowing who has walked into the Den before anyone else realises, often commenting on the weather patterns before they happen and sensing the wet and dry seasons with her excellent sense of smell.
Her other senses make up for where her sight fails her (her vociferous nature makes sure she doesn't go unheard), and when it does, Oju is always there, by her side. The pair are inseparable.
She recently has taken up residence with Kipepeo, the current pride advisor, and they get along well enough - Kip finds it funny how loud the new girl is and giggles to herself that at least her advice will be heard! She is shaping up to be a good advisor, although her sister tends to tag along a bit too much for Kips liking. Eti wouldn't have it any other way though - Oju looks after her sister, even if she is rather lazy.
She knew of the passing of Kipepeos' beloved mother Maua before anyone else, and stood guard at the entrance of the families' den, uncharacteristically quiet, to respect their privacy while they said their goodbyes, gazing with her blank eyes down at the ground while she listened to what was being said (or not!) She comforts her mentor and is close to her while she mourns - she never knew her own mother, but respects Kipepeo like one and is very protective of her feelings whilst she goes through this difficult time. She too thought a lot of Maua and the whole pride takes her death very hard.
As her mentor reaches her fourteenth year (Eti is just over three and a half, a youngster still), she hands her position over to Eti, who she deems very capable to take her place so she can have a relaxing retirement. Eti sits proudly and quickly informs everyone of her new position. You know, just so they know. In case they forget.
Now she has reached ten years old and is a valued member of the pride, having never missed a cue when it comes to advising over hunts or patrolling, even though she herself, frustratingly, cannot take part.
She reluctantly turns her mind to thinking of training a replacement. Only thinking about it mind. She doesn't like to think over her age. She is supremely proud and fussy and her trainee will have to be more than good to meet her exacting standards - as she has a big say in how the pride is run, this is actually justified.
At the dawn of the new royal siblings' reign, she, along with many of the old guard, decides to step down and hands her place to her obedient and clever young daughter Pari.
'You wanted to say hi to Etí, Pride Advisor but she keeps roaring at a noisy bird way up high in some branches. You sit down and wait it out."
