Trophy Plans!

*$ Pecan 8m OxPatch HSO WW 2G* appears out of nowhere and attempts to tackle you! Sadly, she just thuds against you and flops onto the ground. Stupid cub.

You were trying to hide that you scratched your paw in the last battle, but *$ Pecan 8m OxPatch HSO WW 2G* came up to softly groom it for you. Thanks, sweetheart.

Lore Keeper Kat kept complaining about having to clean her fur every five minutes. You started to make a joke, but Lore Keeper Kat then demanded you help her groom.

HOLY WHAT???? Surprise Mane Ruffled!

Lore Keeper Kat kept complaining about having to clean her fur every five minutes. You started to make a joke, but Lore Keeper Kat then demanded you help her groom.

You noticed Lore Keeper Kat pushing an ostrich chick with her nose to help it get up, and watching it tumble away back to its mom. You sit down, smiling at her. What a cutie.

Lore Keeper Kat|Sister came out of a thicket with her fur all full of sticks and leaves. You offered to help them get her out and spent the rest of the morning doing just that.

—————
You have explored this territory, talking to several pride members about their lives in this pride. They told you their quality of life, and then suggested you speak to Kat, the Lore Keeper, if you wanted to know more. They pointed you in the direction of the royal caves, where she dwelled with the Queen, Lead Huntress, and Shaman.

As you approach the tall cave, you see it is lion-made rather than natural. A pillar of rock juts out at one side, and leaves are thatched thickly on the other to provide protection from all around. Several strong lionesses are standing guard. They glare at you suspiciously as you approach but once you state that you wished to speak to Kat, they allowed you through.

Kat is a strange lioness with ruffles of fur on the back of her neck, like a young adolescent male. She was clearly full-grown and female, though. When you walk inside, she is perched precariously on a ledge near the ceiling. She is painting a golden lion on the top of the pillar. There are more scratches in the rock that look like sketches carved from claws.

“Oh hello! Have you come to speak to me? I will be down in a moment, just give me a moment to wash my paws!” Kat calls down to you.

She is down from the ledge and cleaned in a minute or so.

“I was just depicting the pride history on the wall. Reminisce, the Shaman, has been helping with it. Anyway, what is it that you need to know about the pride? Because I know all! I have a photographic memory, you see. Ask me anything!”

Well, what DID you want to know?

The Beginning

In the beginning, there were no lions in this territory. Human tribes hunted them out of the area. Then, humans advanced their technology a tad. They decided that lions needed to come back, since they could now farm cattle instead of hunting. Other grazing animals would eat the grass until the ground was bare in the dry season, which left nothing for their livestock. And so, lions could hunt here again and control the population. There was no competition between humans and lions, as long as the lions stayed out of their fields.

Territory Description

Here, there is a thick river that gradually thins as it flows down. This river cuts diagonally across the territory.

On the west side of the river, there is a thick, nearly impenetrable jungle. Part of the river branches off and feeds a sizable lake in the middle of this jungle. Along the banks of the branched river, leopard orchids grow.

On the east side of the river, there are many different landscapes. A lush forest lines the northeast side of the river. Many large, rocky outcroppings also lie northeast. Green fields line the southeast portion of the river. They are green even in the dry season. Further east lies drier fields. A single baobab grows in them.

Another branch of the river splits off in the most northeastern corner of the territory, flowing straight south and feeding several water holes that lie in the most southeastern corner. But this only happens in the wet season. The branch dries up and the water holes turn into undrinkable mud pits in the dry season.

In the middle of the map, just below the many rocky outcroppings, is where the pride takes shelter. There are smaller rocky outcroppings and boulders here in this green savannah that provide protection from the elements. Scattered Acacias from the nearby forest also provide excellent cover. This is where we are now, actually!

If you leave the territory, the Volturi pride dwells in the northeast. It is a very rocky territory with many human villages. The Volturi lions are... unnatural. And not very friendly. I wouldn’t recommend paying them a visit.

First King: Jahni

Jahni wandered across this territory after having left his previous pride. Here, he decided to start his pride. He hadn’t any lionesses yet, so he decided to get stronger to attract them. He attacked many animals ruthlessly in the process. One day, he realized how wrong this was. Animals would cry out and flee at the sight of him, and Jahni decided that he did not want to be known as a vicious terror. So he mellowed out and tried to be kinder.

First Queen: Mohka

He claimed his first lioness soon after his revelation. She was chased from her pride and did not have a proper name, so Jahni named her Mohka. Mohka has a strange gift. She was able to see the true intentions of any lion. After she was chased, many males made advances on her. She saw that they only wanted her for cub fodder, or just to straight up murder her. Jahni, however, just wanted a queen to love. This is why she allowed Jahni to claim her.

Firstborn: PridenJoy

Jahni’s firstborn was not borne from Mohka, but from a lioness Jahni had purchased. He was eager for cubs and could not wait for the patter of tiny paws! His first cub was silver and named Pridenjoy. She was the daughter of a lioness named Azalea. Azalea did not like Jahni’s pride. She thought he was weak, and so her daughter was too. As soon as Pridenjoy was weaned, Jahni forced Azalea out of the pride. His first cub was then raised by Mohka, like royalty.

But Pridenjoy would never become a queen. This, among other things, made her bitter. One day, this bitterness would consume her.

First Princess: Mohka the Second

Mohka and Jahni had their first litter soon after Pridenjoy’s mother left. Among them was a tiny white and red cub. Mohka marveled at her pelt and decided that she would be the next queen.

Mohka II and Pridenjoy grew up together as close sisters. But Pridenjoy would always pick on Mohka II, trying to lower her confidence. This bullying was all a part of Pridenjoy’s grand scheme to become queen. She was hoping that Mohka II would relinquish control of the pride to her when the time came.

It almost worked and Mohka II genuinely feared that she would not become a good leader. Jahni and Mohka assured her that Pridenjoy had just misguided her and that she would be a good leader. Though Mohka II was usually kind to her sister, she finally decided that enough was enough. She stood up to PridenJoy and told her she would never gain control of the pride. This only increased PridenJoy’s bitterness.

Adjacent Territory: Volturi Pride

As Jahni’s pride grew, he wandered around the borders of his territory to see what else was out there. During one of his hikes, he noticed a lion harassing lioness. He stepped in and defended the female, who repaid the kindness by running away...

The harassing lion was an ugly male named Volturi. He wanted a particular lioness from the pride the other lioness was from, and was willing to kill to get her. Jahni let him go with a warning, but followed at a short distance without Volturi knowing. He witnessed more of Volturi’s appalling cruelty when he began torturing an injured elephant calf. This time, Jahni intervened and best the tar out of him. He swiftly put the calf out it’s misery afterwards.

After that incident, Jahni assured Volturi that any item he gained from cruelty would be confiscated. Jahni had several birds spy on him and they would report to him any time Volturi procured ill-gotten gains. Instead of making Volturi penitent, this punishment only increased his violence.

Volturi sought to get stronger to defeat Jahni, so he abducted a human shaman to perform a ritual on him. The shaman transformed him into a vampire, but it did not make him stronger. It was only a curse! Volturi killed the shaman and drank her dry to make her pay.

Around this time, Jahni also met with a shaman. The shaman did not curse him, though. In fact, she blessed him with beauty to improve his cubs! When Volturi saw his changed appearance, he demanded to be told how. Jahni refused, of course.

Second Princess: Alexandria

Soon after Jahni was blessed, Mohka had another litter. In the litter was a tiny red and gold cub that looked a lot like Jahni did now. Mohka the II knew she would be too old by the time Mohka passed the title to her to breed a suitable heir. She decided that that cub would be queen after her. The cub was named Alexandria.

PridenJoy saw any possibility of becoming queen fall away after Alexandria was born. She stole Jahni’s golden beetles and gave them Volturi in return for a place in his pride. She also told him where he needed to go and what he needed to do to become beautiful like Jahni. Volturi changed her into a vampire shortly after his blessing was received.

Mohka and Jahni were heartbroken that PridenJoy left then for such a cruel lion. Jahni was so enraged by Volturi’s actions that he roared and his pelt changed color! There was residual magic still inside him from the shaman’s blessing, and his emotional outburst caused it to release and changed him further.

Mohka and Jahni both knew that was growing evil, but they loved her. She was their first cub and would always see her as a troubled little girl. Mohka II was sad to see her go, too. When Jahni came to confiscate more of Volturi’s dastardly items, PridenJoy waltzed up to him, wearing the skin of another lion. Jahni was so horrified that he left the pride alone and never returned to their lands.

Second Queen: Mohka the Second

Jahni, Mohka, Mohka II, and Alexandria ran the pride smoothly for several years until Mohka finally passed. With her life, the title of Queen passed from her as well. Mohka the II was now Queen.

Jahni kept trying to find her a suitable king for when he passed, but Mohka II didn’t prefer any of them. The submales of the pride, Leo and Twinkle, attempted to woo her. They weren’t successful, either. Leo wouldn’t give up, though! He practically harassed her and it got the point where Jahni had to banish him from the pride.

First Prince: Arrohn

Mohka II was looking for something special. She gained the ability to detect special powers within others, as well as their true intentions. She may have inherited these abilities from Mohka. When Mohka II accompanied Jahni on a trip to a local lion market, a cub for sale caught her eye. He only had one marking, so Jahni overlooked him and didn’t think anything of it. The cub was sitting away from his other siblings, muttering to himself and playing with rocks. It was obvious that he was an outcast. But Mohka knew he had a promising power and begged Jahni to buy him.

That day, they took him home and named him Arrohn. Arrohn kept to himself and showed no interest in socializing. Stranger yet, markings seemed to appear on him as he grew! Mohka II
