As you walk into her sight, Iris (P) proudly gets up to strut in front of you, showing off her sleek fur.
6/15/18 - Iris is busy meticulously grooming her paws and claws of any dirt and blood that clings to them. They have to be perfect. She doesn't even notice James III as her king approaches, his striped tail curved over his back as he attempts to catch the amethyst eye of the young lioness. It is her first heat, and as King, the third James reserves the right to breed all his lionesses for their first time. Even without her heat Iris had captured the hot intent of his saffron eyes, as her clouded coat was especially beautiful, and her nature was as proud as her mother's mother.
But before James could attempt to speak to her, the heir, Valhalla, stepped in, his starshine eyes glittering with a controlled anger. "I suggest you leave Iris' untouched, heat or no heat." The young ivory male rumbled, infernal mane and marking as stark as the angry fire fueling his words. James narrowed his flaming eyes, turning to face the younger male. The heir's body may have been more able than the king's, but he was far less experienced, and not exceptionally large. Though he was not concerned for his position, or that he would lose a fight, James snorted. "I have more than enough scars from my years of leadership, cub. If you wish to claim her as your mate then so do it. However, you have no actual right until you are the king." The battle-marked cocoa male growled.
Valhalla snarled, baring his off-white teeth. "You would be dead right now, and I would be King, if not for the Springs." He lashed his tail, eyes blazing. James too curled his lips, revealing large yellowed fangs. "I earned my youth at the Springs, as did the Kings before me. One day, you may too, if I don't change my mind of who I crown after me. There would be plenty who would take my name, as I did once, and ascend to the throne. Older and younger males alike." The old king warned, his saffron eyes seething.
Valhalla moved to take a threatening step towards his king, huge paw raised with claws extended as Iris trotted forwards, tiaraed head held high. "This is absolute nonsense." She roared, whiskers twitching in annoyance. The beautiful princess looked at Valhalla with disdain in her amethyst eyes. "James is King. Not you, Valhalla, not yet. It is my duty to bear his cubs, and even if it wasn't," she snorted, swiveling her head to gaze at James III, "I would not have cubs with anyone other than a king." She dipped her head briefly, as she thought of what to say next, then raised it once more. "My mother has served you for years as a top-notch huntress. My own skill is not there yet, but I can offer my part in having good cubs, and so I shall."
The fossil lioness shot one last look at Valhalla, and then padded off, trailing her tail along the underside of James' chin as she left.
7/10/18 Iris is standing quietly and watching the clouds move over the lands. For some reason this makes your heart skip a beat. You know that Valhalla had loved her, and couldn't bear the thought of Sterling taking her first heat. When you became King instead, it pushed him over the edge, and he left the pride. You suspect that Iris still mourns his departure, despite her belly beginning to round with the cubs of another, as she has been downcast ever since.
