Rangi has...ascended...

She heard whispers in the dark, the voices of the pride's recent ancestors. She heard her father's voice. Her mother's voice. And they both told her, no, Research wasn't actually in charge. Research couldn't save them from the fierce ice, the fierce cold. They had the answer, but she would need to step closer.

So she did. And as she walked, her snow-white pelt turned to ash. She could feel herself changing with each step she took closer to her ancestors. Somewhere between life and death.

"Rangi" the combined voices of the pride said. "Rangi."

(Generations 1+2)
Rangi is the pride's lore keeper and the keeper of ceremonies.
With her ascension, she learned that the first females of the pride tamed the wildland with their worship of the seasons. The first daughters of Sunsetboi had spurned the seasonal gods as nonsense, instead, they relied on King Research to pull them through.

The winter was harsh and killed many of their cubs. The survival of the pride seemed bleak. Until Rangi heard the voices.

They told her to remind Sunset's daughters, his granddaughters, and great-granddaughters of their duties, and to respect the seasonal gods. And when she left, she was forever changed by the ancestors, immortalized to fulfill her new role as the lore keeper and keeper of ceremonies.

Rangi went to the Shaman and although she at first trembled, she came to understand. Together they formed the new rules and laws of the pride to ensure its survival.

First - All cubs were to be named after their grandmothers as a reminder of who they were and where they came from so that they would not forget.

Second - All royal cubs were to be named for the season they were to represent, as to honor the seasonal god they lived closest to. Commoner cubs would take their fathers' names to differentiate them from royalty.

Third - New Kings were to be selected by Rangi and the current Queen. They would be selected based on their strength and appearance to ensure the survival of the next generation with the combination of strength and fresh genetics. The King would act as the physical representation of the seasonal god the pride currently worshipped, and as such, would lose his name and take on the name of the season he represented.

Finally, Rangi would oversee and keep track of the history of the pride for generations to come, at a price. She would live forever, a fierce image of a creature somewhere between lioness and god who would forever strike fear into the hearts of all but the Shaman of the pride. She would live alone to commune with the seasonal gods and the pride's ancestors, only to break her solitude to communicate with the Shaman and to select a King with the Queen.
