^he/himCeleus II was previously next in line to become the Herald. He knew he deserved it, he was a descendant of Celeus - the Celeus, after all! And he never let anyone hear the end of it. He liked to call himself the "second", even though the Celeus was nothing but an ancient relative, as Celeus II believed they were more closely related than his bloodline proved (this sentiment perplexed most). His bloodline, though he paraded it so haughtily, ultimately ended up being his undoing. He was so, so inbred, the poor guy. You can't have a lion with such tainted heritage ascend to the rank of Herald, regardless of if he was a relative of the Celeus or not. And, well, it turned out that he wasn't even that. Celeus II was nothing but a swaggering fraud!

And so, he was struck from the line and replaced with a young cub by the name of Coronet. A nobody. A total... nobody. Celeus II, though he often boasted about never once holding a grudge, very clearly held a grudge. He deserved to be herald, what did his bloodline have to do with any of it?! So what if his ancestors fooled around a little, that wasn't his fault! So what if he wasn't, technically, actually blood related to the Celeus? That old dullard didn't have what it took to be the Herald, anyways! Celeus II had what it took! A new, improved, younger, smarter, prettier, objectively better Celeus wasn't enough? And this newcomer was? Unbelievable! Unthinkable! Unimaginable! He was... he was UNTOUCHABLE! Yes... Celeus II was just too good for the rank of Herald. Yes, that was it, right? Of course! But he wanted it, anyways. Oh, so badly. And Celeus II always gets what he wants.
