Bio:
Janix, a strong and powerful leader, fearsome fighter, and loving king, was not always so. It was only with many moons of training he became this way.
Back when he was a cub, Janix was a runt of the litter. Always picked on for being different and small, he became very timid, unliked, and was soon outcasted by the other cubs. Seeing that he was different, and knowing it was something special, Janix's mother decided to discuss it with his father, King Rinion.
"Mother," said Janix, his front paws pressed up against his mother's large paw, "why am I different?"
His mother snorted and rolled her eyes, "Janix, we have been over this. You are a lion. And a lion is all you ever need to be. Your father is different, and look at him. He is a king."
The hot breeze blew through the small mane Janix was growing, and the smell of rain was faint, but growing. "Yes, mama," he said, "but I'm not even like father. Father said, that there are few like me, and that there is not a single lioness in the world like me. What does that mean?"
His mother lay her head down on the cool and soft earth, and looked at her cub. He didn't know just how special he was. How strong he would be. He just didn't know it yet. It hurt her heart to see the cubs treat him so badly. She slowly stood, and licked Janix's head. "I am going to go speak to your father," she turned her head back towards him as she walked up the pathway, made by many years of walking amongst the earth, "It is time for little ones to take a nap, anyways."
...
"I'm just not sure what to do, Rinion," Janix's mother said as she sat elegantly across from the king. "The cubs are so hurtful towards our cub. You know he is special."
Rinion let out a large sigh, and his breath rattled in his large chest. He clawed at the ground and looked up at his mate, unsure of what to say. When he was a cub, and was picked on and outcasted for being different than the others, he fought his way to the top, and demanded the respect of his peers.
"Maybe," he started, standing and walking to the edge of the den, to look down upon Janix, who was asleep under a large leaf, "maybe he does not belong here."
Janix's mother growled and stood, her fangs bared, and hissed, "How DARE you say that about our son? He is obviously different, yes, but so are you, and you are a great king. You have sired many cubs. Who is to say he will not? Who is to say that he will not be a king one day?" She lashed her tail back and forth, and stepped out on to the natural walkway leading away from the den. It had just started to rain.
"Wait," the mighty primal king said, looking after Janix's mother, "I believe he would be a valuable asset elsewhere."
"And where," his mother said, swinging her head back to look at Rinion, water droplets dripping from her snout, "would that be?"
...
A few days later, Janix and his mother went for a long walk. It was said that a pride within the mountains was in need of an heir. After a long discussion with Rinion, they had come to a conclusion that Janix would be welcomed in this pride, as they worshiped cubs like him. A mountain pride led by a primal lion named Filius was where she was taking her cub.
"Janix," his mother started, "I am taking you to a new pride."
"Why, Mother?"
"They are looking for a special cub like you to take over as King."
Janix's fluffy ears perked up, and he jogged to catch up with his mother, "King? Me? But I am different."
"No, Janix, you are you."
They walked in silence then. Janix's head was filled with thoughts of this new pride, and who Filius was. His mother, however, was excited to see how this pride welcomed her Janix.
...
It was dusk when the two finally reached the mountain pride. Crickets chirped, fireflies flowed and danced, and the faint sound of lionesses talking amongst themselves could be heard. Janix's mother looked down at him, a small smile on her muzzle, as she realized that this place felt right for him. She looked up to see a large primal lion looking down at her.
His coat was beautiful, as if painted by humans. His colors gleamed in the light of the lowering sun, and the rising moon. He was large, his paws the size of Janix, and his mother couldn't help but stare.
"Welcome to my pride," the large primal lion said, a smile on his muzzle as he stepped down towards the two. "I am Filius, the king to this pride."
Janix's mother bowed her head, "I have brought your heir, he comes from royal blood, his father is king Rinion." She slowly slid a paw behind her son and moved him forward.
Filius lowered his head to the cub, and looked into his blue eyes, "Hello, cub. What do they call you?"
Janix looked towards his mother, and then back to the large lion in front of him. He was glorious, and Janix already wanted to be like him. "I.. I am Janix."
"Janix.." said Filius as he raised his head and slowly made his way around Janix, looking him over, ".. that is a wonderful name. For a wonderful cub. You are special, Janix. Here, you are known as a Smilus."
"A Smilus?" His Mother perked her ears and stepped forward with a questioning glance.
Filius nodded his head and sat down in front of the pair, "We are Primal lions. Sought for by prides all over. There are four known types, one being newer. Your generic Primal, myself, a Primal Felis, my queen, a Primal Smilus, which is you Janix, and a newly discovered Primal Ferus."
Janix looked up at Filius, and then back at his mother, "Mother, did you hear that? I'm a Primal! A Smilus!"
She sat, in awe, and stared at Filius. "We.. didn't know what was off about Janix. His father is a Primal, but we did not know there were others. That is why we brought him here."
Filius nodded in acknowledgement and nudged Janix towards the pride, "He will make a great king. Thank you for bringing him. You may go now."
Janix's mother stood and looked at her little cub, then turned and made her way back down the mountain.
...
It was dark within the cave that Filius brought Janix to. The two had not said much to each other since they had left Janix's mother, and Janix was feeling a little less confident in himself without her. Filius had entered the cave first, and Janix followed close behind. They walked for awhile longer before coming to a large opening, where lionesses were laying with cubs, another large Primal lion standing by the entrance of the opening, and a large and slim-looking lioness laid up on a pedestal-like rock.
Janix looked around with wide eyes, and they all seemed to be interested in him.
The large and slim lioness hopped off her rock, and landed with a soft thud, then walked towards the two. Her eyes pierced through him, and then turned to Filius, who gave a small smile as she nuzzled him. "Welcome back, my king."
Filius nodded and looked down at Janix, "This is my queen, Sahennest. She is a Felis."
Sahennest lowered herself to the cub and eyed him over. After a few moments, she licked him. "You must be Janix, the new heir I have heard about. You are our first here, being a Smilus. I've heard many things about Smilus Primals. Strong and agile. And only lions, never a lioness."
Janix wiped his ears and let out an accidental yawn, "Yes, I am Janix."
Filius and Sahennest glanced at each other, and then she grabbed him by the scruff and took him to the pedestal-like rock. She then laid down, and placed him in front of her.
"This is where royalty sleeps, Janix. No other lion or lioness is allowed up here. Only you, Filius, myself, and one day another heir - who will be your mate, so when you are king, you will have a queen."
"A queen?"
Filius laid down beside Sahennest, "Yes, a queen to rule beside you. Now, get some sleep, your training starts tomorrow."
"Training?"
"Shhh," Sahennest said, as Janix slowly drifted into a deep sleep.
...
It was three years later. Janix sat on the ledge of the mountain, overlooking the valley below. A breeze swept through his mane. He sat here from time to time to see his surroundings - and what would one day be his. As he got older, Janix had learned a lot, and was now a strong and skilled lion. He was fast, agile, even-tempered, level-headed, and caring.
Filius had too gotten older, and knew that it would be time to give up his title soon, and step to the side so that Janix could rule. He and Sahennest had discussed a mate for Janix for awhile, and they decided that now was the time to retrieve her - an heir to Sahennest.
She had left at dawn to make the trip. They had their eyes on this cub since news of her had made its way through the kingdoms, and Filius and Sahennest sacrificed many of their riches for her. They had not yet told Janix of this lioness, but they started to see the loneliness that Janix had begun to feel as he sat upon his ledge everyday overlooking the valley.
Filius made his way to the ledge and sat beside Janix.
It was quiet for awhile before Janix spoke, "I imagine bringing my queen here. I even dream about it sometimes."
Filius looked over at Janix, and gave him a fatherly lick on his ear, "That is what I have come to talk to you about."
"Hm?"
"Sahennest and I have been talking, and we think you are ready for a mate. She went out to retrieve her this morning. We think she will be a perfect ruler alongside you."
Janix stood and looked at Filius, excitement ran through his body, and he wanted to know everything about her. "What is her name? What does she look like?"
Filius chuckled and stood, "Shh. You will meet her soon enough."
...
It was three days later when Sahennest returned. Her eyes lit up when she saw Filius and Janix standing there, waiting for her and her heir. She purred as she rubbed heads with the two males, then turned towards the path as a beautiful lioness stepped forward.
Her paws were massive, and she was stunning. She was built to be agile, but strong at the same time, and her fangs were long. Her coat was beautiful, and the rising sun behind her made it glow shades of orange, red, and purple. She was young, younger than himself, but Janix had already fallen in love with everything about her.
To be continued.
