The gentle crash of waves against the cliffs filled the morning air as Belle lay curled in her den, the scent of salt and wildflowers drifting in with the breeze. The warmth of the sun trickled in through the rocky entrance, casting soft golden light over her sleek fur. It was a peaceful morning—one of those moments where the world felt slow and easy, like the rhythmic ebb and flow of the tide.
A quiet set of pawsteps approached, and Belle lazily blinked open her eyes. She recognized the steady presence before she even lifted her head.
“Good morning, Neptuneus,” she said warmly, stretching out her front paws before sitting up. “You’re up early.”
The mighty lion king stood at the entrance, his dark mane tousled slightly by the wind, eyes calm as ever. He gave a small, knowing smile. “I could say the same for you.”
Belle chuckled softly. “Not every morning has to start in a rush.” She glanced out toward the shore, where the sun was just beginning to rise over the water. “Some are meant to be enjoyed.”
Neptuneus stepped further inside, his gaze following hers toward the horizon. “A wise thought.” He looked back at her. “I thought I’d stop by and see how you were. You bring so much energy to the pride—I sometimes wonder if you take enough time for yourself.”
Belle tilted her head, thoughtful. “I like being with the pride,” she admitted. “I like making sure everyone is happy, keeping the cubs entertained, and reminding everyone that life is more than just hunting and guarding borders.” She smiled softly. “But I promise, I take my moments, too. Like this one.”
Neptuneus nodded, his expression one of quiet understanding. “Good.”
A comfortable silence settled between them for a moment before Belle exhaled a content sigh. “You know, you should take more of these moments yourself, Neptuneus.” She glanced at him with a teasing glint in her eyes. “The great king of the Coastal Kingdom deserves to enjoy the beauty of his own home.”
Neptuneus chuckled, shaking his head slightly. “Perhaps you’re right.”
Belle’s smile deepened as she scooted over slightly, nodding toward the den’s entrance. “Then stay for a little while. Watch the sunrise with me.”
The lion king hesitated only for a moment before settling down beside her, the two watching in companionable silence as the golden light stretched across the waves.
