Scoria greeted you happily as you approached. Then, she idly said she had this neat story from yesterday, but maybe you don't care enough to hear about it. Because you didn't want to listen to her yesterday. Because you were busy with other pride mates. No, it's okay, she understands. She's not as important as them. She's sitting very close now. Uh.
-
Scoria sobs as silently as she can, the brutal scene in front of her too much to bear. She had just finally grown past her cub years, spending so much time training just to survive and moving onto learning how to hunt with all the other lionesses and forming a hunting part of her own with other young lionesses like her. Learned of her duties once her body fully matured.
Now she was just sitting in front of her mothers body, the gory scene too much to bear.
"Why?" She whips around to face the male who brought her here to see this, her very own pride leader. The lion who painstakingly took care of her himself when he wasn't busy with his kingly duties after her mother disappeared so many moons ago. "Why?!" Her tears stained the fur of her cheeks, her chest heaving as she struggled to breathe. "Why would you show me this?!" Her voice cracks and gives out on her last word, turning her cry of outrage into a broken whisper.
Cheetu remains silent, merely staring her down as she cries and wheezes over the half rotten body of her mother.
Scoria had nothing, no brothers or sisters, no mother probably since she was weened. It was all cause of him, wasn't it?
Where was the kind lion everyone in the pride always talked about? Always praised and swooned over as he brought in lionesses he 'rescued' from deep in the Savannah, or rather...bought? Did he do the same to her mother? Bought her and brought her here, just to have a single cub that barely met the bare minimum to keep alive and then brutally murdered? Why didn't he just do the same to her? Is that why she was here?
She started to sob harder. "Am I here to die?" She sniffles and works to stop her crying, but it was so difficult when something so frightening was in front of her.
"No."
"Then why...?"
"A lesson."
Scoria balks at him, a lesson? What hellish lesson could she possibly learn from this? Wasn't she always diligent in her training? Always working her paws to the bone in helping the other lionesses maintain the caves and take care of the other young cubs? "What more could I learn? What did I do wrong?"
Cheetu, the lion who was supposed to be her father, grins a most wicked and terrible smile at her. Her blood freezes in her veins and she cowers under him, he might of said that wasn't why she was here but in that moment...she learns he can so easily end her existence at this very moment. No one would even know, would they? He can so easily lie and cover it up, just like her mother. What does this awful monster of a lion want with her?
"Nothing, yet." Is all he says before pains strikes her across the face, so sharp and sudden that everything faded to black.
