Crowflight

As the long-awaited daughter of Ravenwish, Crowkit was spoiled beyond belief as a cub. Clan Vanguard had worried that their prophet would die of old age without a successor, so she lived a kithood of luxury, being treated with great importance. After all, it was thanks to the original prophet that the Clan had been founded in the first place!

Growing up, though, Ravenwish treated her no differently than any other cub. She trained as an ordinary apprentice, which suited Crowpaw fine; she became a talented hunter, well-mannered despite her prideful nature. Though confused about what would become of the prophet role, Ravenwish never made any mention of it, privately not wanting to influence her daughter's path if she had not inherited that same prophetic gift. Crowpaw almost thought she would be named an ordinary hunter when her training would conclude in a few moons' time.

Then the visions began. It was unexpected, and frightening, to be suddenly disconnected from the physical world and lost in a realm of dreams. That was when her mother finally stepped in, teaching Crowpaw to harness her ability. She learned how to interact with spirits, to interpret signs and omens. Even when old age claimed Ravenwish at last, the now-prophet Crowflight could still seek her out for advice in dreams, something which she did more and more as political tensions rose within the Clan.

Crowflight had seen omens of the attack for a full season, but nothing she did seemed to have any sway over these particular threads of fate. Thrushflame killed his adopted father, just as the prophet had seen a dozen times over, and he seized the throne for himself. In the aftermath, it was all she could do to survive and try to aid the underground resistance movement as best she could.
