Dame

Dame owes her somewhat imposing appearance to an incident when she was just an adolescent, with her heart already set on being a broodmother she was watching over a gaggle of playing cubs alongside her mentor, Blush, when she saw a group of cubs sneaking out of the safety of the camp. Having only just seen a couple tails disappearing into the brush Dame had no time to react or she'd have lost them so she took off like a shot after them calling for the cubs.

But the rascals ignored her and ran off into the forest so Dame didn't have enough time to wait for her pridemates that she hoped were following her. She chased them through the forest until they finally lost her near one of the rivers the crisscrossed the jungle. Dame stood there ears twitch, hoping to smell or hear something to send her the right direction, it just wasn't safe out here for cubs alone, especially not this far from the camp.

She'd just about given up searching and was about to try to regroup with her pridemates so they could help her with her search when she heard a cub's frightened shriek from just down the river and bolted towards it through the underbrush. She burst out of the undergrowth into a little clearing near the river to find the four runaway cubs hiding under a fallen tree from an invading lion nearly as big as Taibhse, who was a new king at the time. Without stopping to think that she was alone Dame through herself between the lion and the cubs and sunk her teeth into his paw It stopped him attacking the cubs at least, but now he was after the young lioness that had bitten him.
Dame held her own just long enough for help to arrive, but by then the strange lion had badly slashed her face and blinded her eye. And while she did eventually recover well there was nothing for the scarring or the blindness.
Dame doesn't mind much though, and she will never regret what she did that day.
