Once the queen of a tyrannical king, Shenzi’s soul persisted after death to make amends for her sins. Her children—many killed at the jaws of her horrible husband—take the spiritual forms of hyenas and follow her between the lands of the living and the dead. Though she is unable to leave the boundaries of the Glade, her bloodline lives on through her descendants.

❧ Shenzi is both my favorite lore-based lionesses and an unintentional recreation of my sweet pitbull baby also named Shenzi. Dog Shenzi was adopted at a time when I was on a year-long hiatus from Lioden, so Lioness Shenzi wasn’t on my mind when I named her. In hindsight, I mighta subconsciously been thinking about Lioness Shenzi since Dog Shenzi is legitimately identical to her, but oh well! I plan to immortalize the rest of my pets in this Glade and create lore for them as well, much like I’ve done with my first dogs Sara and Sadie on Wolvden.

❧ Any lion or lioness marked with a paw print (🐾) emoji is a descendant of the Mother of Hyenas, and each one will have some sort of hyena decor to represent that.
