One stormy autumn afternoon,
As Dusk Falls had strayed further from home than usual, and found herself in the
strange territory of a king some miles from home. With the leader indisposed on patrol and unlikely to cause trouble (as kings are liable to do), Dusk spent the evening with his lionesses, sharing tales and zebra. As the sun began to set, the lionesses took her to meet thier recent litters; a great honor. As they discussed the cubs, and rearing, and the great loss of having a king who never tells you where your cubs are sent, they saw Dusk grow soft and glazed eyes. She has no living family, and has never borne a litter of her own. Among thier own cubs, the lionesses had for eight months harboured a strange child thier king had bought home one eve (seeming rather proud of himself). The cub never took milk nor meat, had made not a singular sound, and never grew nor seemed to suffer for it. They decided to send the odd cub home with their visitor, knowing a cubless lionesses would be much better able for the strange, immortal creature. Dusk was overcome with joy, and carried the child home, naming her 'Castaway'; which seemed very fitting. For ten months now, Dusk has raised and adored her eternal cub, who remains unchanged- though now able to communicate in kitten mews with her mother.
Each lion that enters the pride eventually gains a spirit guide; Castaway has been tied to a hedgehog, named Sapientia by Dusk on her behalf. The hedgehog represents an adaptable and wise spirit.
