Biography
Basma was found by King Jambo beneath a tree. He decided to take the mewling kit home to Greenmarsh, where she was quickly adopted by Subira, the widowed former Queen. Subira taught Basma all about Barutii, the old king of Greenmarsh. Eventually, when Basma asked why she and King Barutii never had any cubs together, Subira simply smiled through the overgrown fur on her face. She told Basma that King Barutii and Queen Subira were the father and mother of all Greenmarsh. Looking up at the stars, she added, "His time is over... But I know he's watching over me. And you... You are my daughter now. And so are you his." Basma would some day come to learn that Barutii and Subira could not have had cubs together because they were both born as lionesses, and that Barutii had in fact borne many litters in his time as king. But she knew that what Subira said was true. She was the daughter of both the queen and the king, and she was no less special due to the lack of a blood tie to either of them.
