Duke Crocell (rank 2 Goetian)
alt title: the "wanting wanderer" | patient | self-indulgent | true neutral
[decorated and biographied 5/12/2021]
"Do you hear that? The lapping of water along the distant shoreline. The curves of the ripples are as ephemeral as your existence on this plane of reality. Let me guide you to it; let us stop and enjoy this brief respite from the pain and sorrows of your mortality."
Crocell was always a mysterious individual even amongst angels, and remained that way long after their fall from grace. Always speaking prettily and superfluously, many passersby would be unable to follow along and discard their words as nonsensical rambling. They never take any offense; Crocell holds an endless patience for mortals. These pitiful creatures have no choice but to remain ignorant if they wish to exist in relative peace of mind, and they are more than happy to grant them such bliss. Not even some of their kin are quite yet ready to accept the truths prevalent in their worlds.
Such philosophical understanding is a heavy weight to bear.
This fallen angel spends their eternal days roaming the face of the mortal earth. Even if they've revisited lands, they're never truly quite the same: landscapes shift, generations change, societies and ideologies evolve. The realm of these short-lived creatures always seems to present something new at every turn, captivating Crocell and broadening their horizons even after an existence as lengthy as theirs. However, knowledge is a burden and it is one that they are cursed to always be gaining yet incapable of sharing. They desperately yearn to pass on their lessons and teachings to any and all who are willing to listen, but so very few possess the patience, ability, or motivation to learn.
Crocell's knowledge base and thinking are so vast that they have decided to shape them into physical beings for organizational purposes: Saeculum, Sensus, Sapientia, and Sodalicium*.
The ends of their digits are lit aflame and trail embers on the ground, symbolic of the burning curiosity that led to their downfall. Despite this, they find peace and tranquility in bodies of water, as their tumultuous surface reminds them of the everchanging face of the mortal realm that dared to tempt them so deeply. Their mouth is heavily scarred from the higher power that doled out their punishment, in retribution for their blasphemous teachings towards mortals and angels alike.
Beneath their dingy and frayed hood of unknown origin lies glowing eyes which seem to hold the answer to all things. They maintain an artificial halo of swords behind their head at all times as well as a set of wings, since it grants them a permanent sense of familiarity in a permanently changing world. Trailing behind those nocturne feathers is a rain of sparkles, which was signature of them back in Heaven. All of these traits, along with the illuminating runes along their body and flaming digits has naturally led to their title of Coruscant. Being a Demon of Greed, they are fixated on pursuing and hoarding their item of interest at any cost, often superseding any natural reservations or morals they may otherwise possess in their character. As such, Crocell is not as slighted by their Fall as some of their kin, as they are now free to expand and spread their earthly wisdom with little further consequence.
In regards to their fellow demons, Crocell is actually quite popular. Their vernacular may be rather archaic on occasion but they are still understood with ease amidst this sort of company. Though few truly enjoy engaging them in debate, they are a steady source of wisdom and will seldom pick a side in conflict, thus making for an ideal mediator in the many conflicts that arise in Hell. They are considered a "mortal lover", but they get a pass since it's born out of a thirst for knowledge rather than true sympathy. The Coruscant also possesses a few likeminded companions in these depths, providing a much needed respite from their mental shackles.
*Saeculum - ("secular"): sciences, mathematics, logic; factual and formulaic knowledge. ["Sae" is a snarky creature, ready to showcase their superior intellect and quick to correct others. Does not get along with "Soda".]
Sensus - ("affectivity"): emotions, relationships, dips into psychology and sociology. ["Sen" is sensitive, as per their namesake. Their emotions are volatile and are quick to jump from one extreme to the next; they don't mean to, and actually possess quite a high emotional quotient. Their artificial brain and heart are simply out of touch with each other. Gets along well with "Sap".]
Sapientia - ("philosophy"): ideologies, metaphysics, morality. ["Sap" is a dreamer and always deep in thought. As such, they are incredibly absent-minded and their body usually operates on autopilot. Makes for a great "listener" for "Sen" and rarely makes them upset.]
Sodalicium - ("society"): history, culture, religions. ["Soda" is a very haughty individual, seeing themselves as superior to their three siblings. Does not take criticism well. Clashes with "Sae" often, sometimes provoking them and other times unable to let them have their way.]

From Heaphy's "A Compendium of Demons":
"Once a member of the Powers, [Crocell] is now a Duke of Hell who rules over 48 legions of demons. He appears as an angel with a tendency to speak in dark and mysterious ways. When summoned he teaches Geometry and other Liberal Sciences and can warm bodies of water, create the illusion of the sound of rushing waters, and reveal the location of natural baths. He is associated with water."
