Abyzou was a stillborn cub given life through a ritual to drain the life of the other cubs of her mother's pride. Her dam's distress and despair, coupled with the dark ambitions of her uncle, led them to consult with powers beyond the mortal realm. A shadow creature, as small as a a newborn foal, guided them to salvation. The decaying nature of the cub pushed the pair to act without question, spiriting her daughter to the nursery cave upon which the male slaughtered their guardian, his pridemate, in cold blood. Her cousins' mewling cries faded in a mere moment as their vitality was sapped, breathing life into the unnatural one-eyes cub.

Her mother cared little for the deformity, blessed she was to finally have a living cub after litters of miscarriage and stillbirth. With the pact formed between the demon and the reborn cub, her uncle intended to overthrow his brother as king of the pride with his secret lover as his queen. Abyzou herself was not truly her mother's daughter, however, but the demon of infant death given a mortal coil in the form of a disfigured and defenseless lion cub. She was aptly christened "Abby" by the shadow demon who held a personal grudge against her for reasons dating back to ancient times.

Her host's lack of developed muscles and vocal cords rendered her mute, only allowing the cub to communicate telepathically with her jailor who ignores her threats and woes. Abyzou is naturally a fussy child but has begrudgingly come to accept the motherly love of her dam. She hates everyone else.

To sustain herself, Abyzou will drain one cub of life every week.

In Judaism she is identifies with Lilith, in Coptic Egypt with Alabasandria, and in Byzantine culture with Gylou, although she is said to have innumerable names. She is pictured with fish- or serpent-like attributes."
