Thorin padded slowly towards Luna, admiring every inch of the gorgeous Tigon. How he had been so lucky to snag such a beautiful feline was beyond his comprehension and he would spend every day reminding her that she made the right decision joining his pride. Taking the last few steps to be by her side, he gently nuzzled the soft fur under her chin.
"Good morning Luna, I hope you slept well." He practically purred, pressing affectionately against her side.
Luna graced him with a soft smile. "I did, your pride sleeps so safe and soundly, it is quite contagious." She responded, looking towards the other lions, fondness glimmering in her interstellar gaze.
"That would be OUR pride." He corrected gently, bringing her attention back to him. "And they have worked hard for that security, many generations and hard fought battles, scarse weeks where there was barely any food." He explained as he looked proudly over his pride. He loved each and every member, from the tiniest cub to the most senior lioness, even his submales were loved dearly by him. He did notice that the other lions seemed to gravitate towards Luna, almost like she was the mother of the entire Pride. It had not taken very long for the lionesses to embrace Luna in their ranks. Looking towards the sunrise, Thorin's voice dropped to a more serious tone.
"One day Luna, I am going to ask you if you would be willing to stay with this pride forever, an eternal rock to carry this pride for many more generations to come. I would like you to think about it so that when the time comes you will have an answer."
Luna looked shocked at this confession, he knew her previous pride had plently of eternals but his had yet to create one. She would be the first lioness to guide the pride for years upon years to come. Hesitantly she nodded her head, accepting his words and the serious decision that lay ahead of her.
Giving her a grateful lick, Thorin got to his paws and started making his way to the other lions, beginning his morning greeting as Luna stared thoughtfully at the rising sun.
......Years Later.....
Tears glistened in Luna's eyes as she gently rested her muzzle on the cool, hard stone that marked Thorin's final resting place. Oh how she missed his warm smile and loving touch, her heart aching at the thought she would never again hear his soft voice wishing her a good morning or affectionately scolding mischevious cubs. He had lived until the ripe old age of 17 years, an amazing life for any lion. She remembered the day she had accepted Thorin's proposal and the pure happiness that had lit up his face, he had practically bulldozed her in his excitement.
Now here she was, her fur etenally soft and skin youthful, never having to worry about time taking her beauty or life away. Stifling a sob, wetness seeped into the fur of her cheeks as she mourned over her old friend. The passage of time was cruel, this was her first taste of the challanges that lay before her, of just how devastating the gift of immortality really was.
Breathing in deeply, she lifted her head off the stone, pawing the wetness off her face. It was time for her to be strong, to be the rock that Thorin wished her to become, to watch over her pride and lead them in the right direction. Getting to her paws, she quitely padded over to where her daughter and grandaughter were happlily grooming each others fur, both of them looking up as she approached. With umderstanding nuzzles, they embraced her with gentle licks and soft purrs that helped lift the burden just a tiny bit.
