Jaguin

Just outside of the cave, you find a strange lioness, spotted like a leopard. She seems to be carrying a live frog, very gently in her mouth. You try to ask her about the frog, but she grunts at you, and shoos you away before heading off towards the pond. You're left with more questions than answers as you slowly head into the cave to meet some of the other lionesses.

Jaguin, herd manager of the Placid Pond Pride
Under the rule of King Callius


Jaguin is one of the few lionesses of Mercutial's original pride, that can hold their own with the aggressive king Callius. Once Dathryn was banished to the outer lands, she took over trying to care for the herds and creatures of the pond in his absence, though the job has become quite different. Instead of just monitoring the herds and updating the king and hunters on their numbers and health as Dathryn did, Jaguin's job is a constant struggle. Most animals that enter the territory are killed on sight, and so Jaguin must sneak the herds through to try and get them a drink on their migrations, and she spends much of her time hiding the other creatures that try to live in the territory. Without her work, the pride would likely have starved.

Jaguin the warm, sunbather of the Placid Pond Pride

A little touchy about her spots, Jaguin has every right to be. She and her mother were chased off from their last pride, because of the mysterious rosette pattern she sports, with the pride claiming her mother clearly associated with a leopard. After they struggled to find another pride to accept them, Jaguin left her mother's side in the middle of the night, hoping that she would be able to find acceptance without her. She followed her mother from a distance, until after a few weeks, she was indeed accepted into a new pride, and Jaguin struck out on her own. After a few months on her own, she stopped to rest by the side of the Placid Pond, and was greeted by the pride. She accepted their offer to stay, on a temporary basis, but ended up joining the pride as a full member after a few weeks.


The members of the Placid Pond Pride are mostly unsure about Jaguin's story. Some believe her mother did associate with a leopard, while others have heard of the mysterious spots appearing on other lions who also had no interaction with leopards. However, all of the lions are accepting of leopons, and they have all learned it's best not to bring it up with Jaguin. Now a beloved member of the pride, Jaguin is warm and kind. She enjoys nothing more than relaxing and basking next to the pond. When she goes hunting, she's a dedicated team player, but much prefers to stay around home, and sometimes helps Dathryn with his study of the herds.


Intro under Mercutial
Near the opening of the cave, a lioness is stretched out, sunning herself on a large flat rock. Her fur is colouful and covered in spots like a leopard. After a moment, she notices you watching her, and motions you over. "I know what you're thinking." She sighs, somewhat defeated. "But I'm not a leopon. There's no leopards anywhere in my family line." She swears. You promise her that you believe her, and she seems to relax. "Not everyone agrees with leopons, you know? Some don't think lions and leopards mixing is right. They take their anger out on me, just cause I have these spots. Anyone can have spots." She sighs, and then offers you a warm smile, and pats the stone beside her. "Enough about that, you look tired. Why don't you rest?" You nod your head, and lay down beside her to soak up a little sun for a bit.

Getting to know Jaguin

What is your favourite food?
"Oh, Giant Forest Hog! They can be a bit tricky to get, and we don't bring them home all the time, but they're so juicy and delicious! If you've never had it, you have to try it!"


What is your favourite item for amusement?
"Uh, well, you know what? Flamingo legs! Those things are so much fun, and they're so silly. They're really a good time... except for the flamingo I guess. They're feathers can be fun too though."


What's your favourite season?
"The dry season. There's just too much rain for me in the wet season. I love laying out in the sun, and the dry season has lots of it!"


What's your favourite time of day?
"Oh, for sure the day time. That's when the sun is out! So warm, and comforting. The night is just dark and cold..."


Which biome do you enjoy the most?
"Hm, don't get me wrong, I love the watering hole, but do you know what's even better? Rivers. You can always find the perfect basking spot, and sometimes you get a refreshing spray of water, and sometimes fun stuff floats by!"


Which lion are you closest to?
"Dathryn, probably. I mean, I love Mercutial and all, but Dath and I work together quite a bit."


Which lioness are you closest to?
"That would be, Klerisa, but, I also enjoy spending time with Analee."


What are your hobbies?
"Sunbathing, but, you knew I was going to say that, right? I also like swimming, and studying the creatures of the pond, and chatting with the girls."
