As the lioness took her last breath, hyenas standing over her, a figure appeared into her vision. As her sight faded, the figure seemed to grow clearer. It appeared to be some kind of canine. She felt any and all pain wash away, and she was able to stand up again. "You died unfairly, your pride having not cared about you and leaving you for the hyenas and vultures to pick the scraps off your bones, so I'd like to give you a second chance at living." Said the canine. His voice was oddly... soothing. Though it was deep and gravelly, like he'd been inhaling smoke from fires for years. The canine introduced himself as a god, Anubis. Suddenly feeling small next to the being, the lioness tried to stand tall. Anubis chuckled. "That's not going to work, dear friend. Walk with me." He said, turning around slightly. The lioness found she had to walk much quicker then normal to keep up with him. Anubis brought up his offer. "I will give you a second chance at living, but not in the world you know now. You will be my... guardian, let's say. Thieving creatures often try raid my temple, my home, taking my valuable, given by my followers and believers. But before you start your duties, I will allow you to take revenge on your pride, do what you wish with them, kill who you must." The lioness barely thought about it, before agreeing. She was never normally bad-tempered, nor held grudges, but the thought of revenge on her cruel superiors was too much to let up. Not to mention, being the guardian of a god and his temple, his home, sounded nice. She liked the thought of being able to help the being who's giving her not only a second chance, but giving her the chance to take revenge on who caused her demise in the first place. Anubis smiled, and in a swirl of dust and light, they appeared in the temple. The lioness felt... odd. Heavier was the right word. She felt like she had extra limbs. Looking back, she found she'd apparently grown a pair of wings. Testing them quickly, stretching them out and flapping them slightly. She put a paw on her head, and found she also had grown a pair of horns! She looked around, and stared at her new appearance in the reflection of a gold pot. Anubis dumped a large pile of gold jewelry and other objects infront of her. "Put these on." He said. She did as he asked, looking into her reflection again. Anubis smiled. "Now you look like a real god." And she agreed, smiling at her new appearance. "Now.. go get revenge on those who wronged you." With a devilish grin that was very much unlike her, she took off, her wings apparently taking control of themselves, instincts keeping her aloft as she flew out of the temple and towards her old home. Landing infront of her old king, and few pride members that remained. She told them who she was, and they immediately began asking, begging almost, for forgiveness. She entertained it for a while, before raising her claws to their throats, and slaughtering them. Their blood spilt over her claws and paws. Disgusted by the feeling, she went to a nearby river to wash it off. Afterwards, flying back towards Anubis's temple, her new home. She lives out her days protecting Anubis, his home and treasures. Each year, when the snakes come, she helps the chosen lion in defeating them, every now and again joining in on their attacks. For the first time in a very long time, she was happy, and never again, would she be treated poorly, lest they want a death sentence from Anubis, who had grown quite fond of his protector.
