She lowered her body against the ground, gazing through the grass at her prey. Her body tensed before she pounced at the adolescent gazelle, successfully completing her hunt. She heard a snarl rip through the air, whipping her head up from her meal she met eyes with a male tiger. He stalked closer, Mwezi hissing viciously as she bared her teeth. His eyes widened as he backed away. She almost felt a wave of relief before she heard a roar vibrate behind her. The male tiger quickly ran off before she could process what was happening. She ran, she didn't have time to figure out who was behind her or why.
---
Thundering footsteps caught up with her, trapping her at the rivers edge. She turned around quickly and backed up, snarling at the male lion before her. She quickly stopped as he dropped the gazelle carcass in front of himself and pushed it towards her with his muzzle. Panting as she caught her breath, she looked at the male warily. He backed up a few steps and shook his mane out. She composed herself before he could catch her staring at him. He stood tall and proud before her. "I didn't mean to scare you off, I just needed to get that tiger away from you. He's been wandering around the outskirts of my territory for the last two days and I've had enough." She nodded quietly. "I know I can handle my own but it doesn't make it any easier. I lost my pride to the humans, I've been fighting for my life ever since." He listened quietly before responding. "I understand, I was prideless for a time, I wouldn't want to experience it again. If you ever find yourself in need of some help. Come find me, just keep going up the river until you see the lush grass field, you can track my scent from there. I'll let my pride know to look out for you-" She interrupted "Mwezi." They parted ways.
---
It had been a few days since she had met the kind male. She didn't know how to put her paw on it but she could have sworn she had recognized him from somewhere. Curiosity getting the best of her she decided to make her way up the river to find his territory. A low warning growl came from behind a tree. It seemed to be the outline of a lioness. Mwezi rolled her eyes and sat down at the edge of the territory to show that she meant no harm. The lioness stalked towards her before becoming wide eyed. "Mwezi.." she whined. Mwezi's ears perked up before realizing who it was, she ran towards her. Both lionesses circled one another in awe. Mwezi rubbed her head against the lionesses shoulder. "Divine it's so good to see you." They purred in unison. "I thought you died.. with your pride." Divine hung her head low. Mwezi brushed her body against Divine's. "I made it out alive, that's all that matters now."
---
Mwezi walked alongside her old friend, quietly listening to how Divine had gotten here and why she wasn't home anymore. It seems they had both went through a lot since they had last saw one another. Who knew it would turn out like this. It seems the news of what happened to Mwezi's pride had spread but no one knew she survived and she wanted to keep it that way. As they approached a clearing in the lush field there was a large low branch tree in front of a large cave with a boulder a little farther out into the territory. Both lionesses walked towards the tree chatting until the male lion had jogged on over to them. "You two seem to be getting along greatly." The lionesses chuckled as they looked at each other quickly. The male lion turned his head slightly, "Do you two know each other?".
