When he was born he was the weakest cub out of the litter. No one thought he'd survive a month but he proved them wrong. Diabolic was still significantly behind his siblings but luckily he was the only other male in the pride who was the king's son at the time. His father saw potential in him and labeled him the heir once he passes.

He doesn't understand why his father is still looking for a "replacement heir" even when Diabolic plans on staying here and becoming King. His father tells him "just in case something happens". He thinks he knows why though. He's heard what happened to his Uncle, the original heir demoted because his father was born and was more respected without using fear—what a joke. Bloodshed had agreed to help Diabolic stay the heir but made no promises to help him if another male came into the picture and was stronger than Diabolic.

Age 4) For 2 years now since his Uncle, Bloodshed decided to help Diabolic in staying the heir, thankfully his father has been overworking himself to a point where new litters that belong to him are rare, however, there is one cub that has a possibility of ruining it all. Octo, the little cub has already proven to be stronger than him. It hurts a bit, Octo needs to "disappear" before the cub becomes an adult or else he will be demoted as fast as his uncle was.

Age 5) He's dead. His uncle was dead. Now there was no one they could go to for advice. There was no proper funeral for his uncle. Hell, some celebrated his death. Diabolic had to carry their uncle to the burial place the pride had despite some lions protesting it. All he has left if the mask their uncle gave him. The TRUE king. Diabloic refuses to let anyone take his title. He doesn't care if he's at death's door by the time he's able to, He. Will. Be. King.

Age 6) His father did it. He made Cloud take over the patrols. What does that leave Diabloic? Nothing besides his father giving him weird looks every time they cross paths. He knew he should have put an end to Cloud. Watch next the heir title will be taken from him and he'll be named "Royal Advisor" or something stupid. If it weren't for Cloud having a pretty mutation, he would have died long ago. But births like Clouds in the pride are rare so the death of one would gain attention unlike when he put an end to Octo.

Age 9) He failed. Cloud will be King. Diabolic? He was titled Royal Advisor like what happened to his Uncle. However Diabolic is weaker than Cloud so he has no chance of getting rid of Cloud. Maybe he could try to get one of Cloud's kids under his control? Yeah, that'll work. He'll make a monster out of one of Clouds Kids when the time comes but this time the cub will rule.
