"You cheeky bastard." ShadowMend looked down at the cub with bright red fur, a knowing glint in the sly cub's eye, a malicious grin that betrays all innocence of a young cub was engraved into the cubs face. "How dare you steal from me." The small creature looked up at him innocently and tilted its head before turning it’s attention back to the small treat in it’s mouth, continuing to suckle Snow's far left nipple, as it was their feeding time. It's light eyes humorously burned into ShadowMend's skull all the while.
Snow, oh dear Snow, the love of ShadowMend's life, lovely and delicate Snow. His first and only true love when he made his pride. she has shown her loyalty that she will be here through thick and thin. It had been an age since he found her, a year perhaps even more. It felt strange that she came to him in a state like this. He was so scared of losing her again, for the love that he felt towards her grew deeper with every morning they woke up next to each other, her muzzle buried into ShadowMend's thick mane, slight purring from the back of her throat.
ShadowMend couldn't bear to leave her side.
He would take her on walks or just lay with her. A simple night together always had such a way of warming them up during the freezing winter nights, though she hated cold weather in general, which made his heart ache for the lioness. He wondered if his love could feel any warmer than when he held her close in his arms.
A hint of pain was etched across Snows features as the Bastard cub nipped just a little too hard on Snow's pink udder, swollen from lactation. She whimpered softly in pain before looking down at the two cubs suckling. ShadowMend wanted to comfort her but feared the consequences if he were to pull the cub away, as she took motherhood seriously and when it came to her cubs it didn't matter what ShadowMend thought. The only thing she held above her king was her loyalty to her cubs. Snow knew better than anyone that not everyone is as kind and gentle as she was about the matter.
He could only hope that she would understand why it was the right thing to do. Sighing to himself he picked the small cub off Snow who let out a cry in protest, not being able to move because ShadowMend gripped onto the thick skin on the base of their neck. ShadowMend gently set down the tiny bastard beside Snow and stood up, stretching his long arms and legs.
'5 months' ShadowMend reminded himself.
ShadowMend Laid down next to Snow with a huff, licking off the bit of stray lion's milk from her warm belly before resting his head on her, listening to her empty womb and digestion of the most recent hunt. he picked up the bastards womb-mate, the only innocent of the two and began to groom her. staring down the ginger as Snow absent mindedly licked the cubs bright red fur.
The sun shone bright and clear despite the chilly wind that kept the sky cold and gray. Snow's fur gleamed brightly as the sunlight streamed down.
"what about, Ku'uipo?" Snow gleamed.
ShadowMend's heart dropped, "W-what did you say?"
"Ku'uipo. I'm not sure why, but that name matches."
the bastard cub purred, agreeing with her decision. this is insanity. If he didn't leave now he would destroy that cub.
"I need to go outside for a bit. Don't stray too far from the den," ShadowMend said as he stood, walked out of the den and towards the front entrance where he knew the snow would soon cover his paw tracks, he needed to kill something.
