Lore
Gently trotting back into your territory, a scout nervously beckons for you to come closer. They look rather frightened, making you speed up to meet them where they begin quickly spilling out words. ‘Uh so there’s this lion, well lioness, she has this look- you know? I left her at the border but she looks shifty and I don’t know, she just scares me!’ You peer at the younger lion with annoyance, ‘Does she mean harm?’. The annoyance in your voice deflates them slightly, ‘I suppose she didn’t exactly hold any malice towards me, she only asked to talk to the lion in charge.’
‘Let’s not assume a lions’ intention before talking with them shall we?’ Begrudgingly you add, ‘However..I appreciate your hesitancy. Now show me where she is.’ You follow the scout to a lioness lying in the shade of a small tree, where she perks her head up to your presence. The scout shrinks away at your flank when you introduce yourself to her. ‘I apologize for their lack of manners, although we can never be too cautious I hope you can understand. What can I do for you?’
‘My name is Deidre. I do not take offense, you are not the first to greet me hostilely. I have been traveling between prides since I left my mother; I seek knowledge and companionship, nothing more and nothing less. Please do not think I am one to leech off your pride, I will hunt and provide for myself, contributing where I can in the meantime. All I ask is to be without cubs, I go as I please and cubs will only pin me down.’ Her clouded eyes look away in politeness, but her eyes hold hope your mercy spars her.
You nod, weary of her intentions, although deep down your aversion has more to do with her presence that makes you want to raise your hackles and flee. ‘You may take your stay with our pride, but if I get even a whiff of trouble from you, I will defend my pride in whatever way I must.’ Deirdre breathes out slowly, ‘You have my word.’ She shyly makes way to your side and snuffs gently when she meets your shoulder with her nose.
#371498☆Riyad☆Dec. 16, 2022
While in Riayd’s pride, Deirdre found solace in the various lions that resided with him. Exclusion was not a concept she dealt with there, but it wasn’t something she was unfamiliar with. Deirdre was a traveler at heart, yet she faced adversary with many of the prides she stayed with. Maybe it was her clouded, unfocused eyes, maybe it was how her ribs seemed to glow with the fire lions ran from, or maybe it was something else, something she was running from. Time may only tell what secrets Deirdre might hold.
When you approach, Deirdre gives you the most intent look, but you cannot figure out why.
