Kenta stalks through the grass, eyes fixated on the gray and white lion who is scanning the area, aware she is being watched. Kenta presses herself low to the ground, letting the grass hide her. Her rosettes help her blend into the savanna, distorting her figure, making sure she isn’t seen.
She gets closer and closer, until she is but inches away from the lioness. Then, she pounces, tackling the older lioness to the ground. The lioness yelps in surprise, flailing uselessly as Kenta pins her down.
“Caught you!” Kenta grins down at her sister, who is staring back at her with wide eyes.
“Kenta!” Kuraokami gasps, glaring at her. “We’re supposed to be looking for somewhere to sleep, why are you playing around?”
“You’re just mad because you lost.” Kenta snarks, stepping off of her and letting her sister get up. Kura glares at her, shaking the imaginary dirt from her pelt. “Besides, it’s not like we’ll die if we sleep under the stars again.”
“Yes, well, those clouds look like rain.” Kura huffs, gesturing upwards at the gray sky. “It will be less “sleeping under the stars” and more “sleeping in the rain”, which I am not too fond of.”
“You’re such a prude.” Kenta rolls her eyes at her sister, though she does begin looking for somewhere to sleep. Yeah, being wet doesn’t seem like so much fun. Not that she’ll be caught dead agreeing with her sister, though.
“I’m not a prude, its just that while I was brought up, you were dragged.” Kura grins, returning to her search. Kenta gasps dramatically, holding a paw to her chest.
“Really, you would say that to me?” Kenta flops to the ground dramatically, pretending to writhe in pain. “To me? Your beloved sister? Your flesh and blood? I am hurt! So hurt!”
“Yes, yes, how terrible of me.” Kura chuckles, trotting up to her and smacking at her side lightly. “Now come on, I found somewhere!”
Kenta perks up, rolling to her feet. Well, it’s not an apology but she will take it.
Kura leads her to the base of a small mountain, identical to all the others around them. It was a valley, after all. Except, at the base of this one, someone has dug out a small, shallow den. Kenta crouches, crawling inside. Well, the ceiling is a little low, and it’s a little cramped, but it will suffice.
Kenta curls up in one corner, and Kura in the other. The den is so small that their feet just barely touch together, no matter how they press themselves against the walls. That's alright, though. It reminds Kenta of when she was a little cub, and she would snuggle against her older sister when she had nightmares.
Kura ends up falling asleep before she does, something typical of her. Kenta can’t help but watch her sleep, as rain begins to pelt the world outside their little den. She doesn’t know what she would ever do without her big sister to keep her company. Luckily, she will never have to find out.
