MAETH’S LORE:
Maeth, a gorgeous tigoness with abnormally thick fur, can normally be found near cool rivers with her wife, M’jango. Maeth’s mother, (canonically) a leopon, raised her alone after the death of her father, a full-blooded tigon; therefore, Maeth has always had more predominantly female company in her life as her mother raised her alone without the help of a pride. Alone in the forest, Maeth was taught to hunt the big game that her mother was too small to bring down. This was because of a chromosomal abnormality that worsened with age, forcing Maeth to take care of and hunt for her and ultimately leading to her demise. After her mother’s death, Maeth aimlessly wandered their territory in a deep state of grief; she was too young to be kicked out of the territory, and it was unlikely that her mother would do so anyway seeing as she hadn’t weighed enough to kill much more than small ungulates and the occasional linsang by the time she died.
One day, while the giant tigoness was patrolling her territory, she caught the scent of an intruding leopardess. Furious, Maeth stalked her until she was led to a small clearing littered with chains; there, splayed out and panting in the middle of a flattened patch of grass, was her target. However, Maeth was surprised to find the leopardess so distressed: she panted, her eyes crazed and wild with pain. Upon further investigation it became apparent that her paw had been caught in a hunter’s trap. Maeth considered her three options: leave the feline, put her out of her misery, or help her, eventually deciding on the last. She pried open the jaws of the trap with unmatched strength. The leopardess, however, did not limp off into the forest like she anticipated; instead, she lay limp on the grass, her chest rising and falling with no particular rhythm. Maeth sighed and hoisted the fallen feline onto her shoulders before bringing her to her rendezvous site.
Years later, Maeth and her mate, M’jango, the leopardess she saved years ago, regularly patrol their shared territory and use M’jango’s skill in speed and Maeth’s skill in brute force to bring down bigger prey. They can still be found along the Niger River, often grooming the other’s long fur.
You find Maeth splayed out near some water, panting heavily and looking generally miserable. She started to complain about how hot it was today, and how she wanted to go play in the snuh. You give her a weird look - it feels great today, and snuh is way too cold to do anything in!
