Chro didn't notice that Mpenzi had passed at first. He woke up one morning and yawned, nuzzling into her neck, but was confused when she didn't cuddle into him in return. "Mpenzi," his deep voice grumbled. "Mpenzi- My darling, please..." He never got a response. "Oh, my love..." The king was never the same after the passing of his mate. He grew quiet and more reserved, and he never loved another lioness the way he did Mpenzi. But he found comfort in some of them, just as companions. Akina was grounded and rational. She took it upon herself to think about the future of the clan. So although Chro found little comfort in her company, she did give him one thing that took some weight off his shoulders. The one thing Mpenzi couldn't give him. An heir. A son.
