On a very fateful day, most peaceful, most tranquil, a cub laid in the shade, having been tossed out by her mother, a mother that was ashamed of what she had produced, a blind cub. The cub was fast asleep when it happened, so quiet, so fast, and when she awoke, no one was around, nor did she know where she was.
This little cub was Toph, and for the first couple days, she called for help, again and again, but no one was around to hear her cries. If anything, her cries had only attracted the attention of a predator, a hungry one. Of course, under usual circumstances, this predator would not even dare get close to a lion. However, this time, the hungry leopard had been watching his meal, minutes had turned to hours, hours turned into a full day. There was no lioness in sight, and that meant he had hit the jackpot!
The fate of a blind cub is as such, tragic and short, not much else could be done, this was a part of nature, survival of the fittest. The leopard creeped towards the lonesome cub, with a mighty leap, it struckβ¦a tree? Just like that, the cub had disappeared. The leopard looked high and low but could not find a trace of the defenseless cub. He took out his frustration of losing his meal on the tree before leaving in a fit of rage.
So, where was the cub? Right under the tree! Toph had been dragged inward before the leopard attacked, under the tree, between the roots, and it was just deep enough that the leopard could not spot them. Them? Who was the one that pulled her in? Toph sniffed the air around her, and found herself sharing the space with another cub, this one had quite the abundance of energy it seemed. As they got out of their hiding spot, the other cub introduced herself as Mossy, and suggested that she be Tophβs eyes and claws. She too was alone, and she wanted a friend.
Within a short amount of time, the two cubs formed a bond like no other, almost instantly they were able to support each other through hard times. Mossy, the quick thinker with fast reflexes, and amazing fighting prowess was in charge of hunting for food, it started small, baby chicks, mice, and the occasional lizard, but as she grew, she became more efficient at hunting big game all by herself, and that would provide them enough food that would last them a long time before they would need more. As for the little blind cub that was almost eaten, she had developed herself an amazingly sensitive nose, and very adapted ears. She could sniff out any type of herb from some distances away, and her ears could pick up even the slightest sound. She had grown to be an amazing gatherer and scout, that defenseless little cub was no more.
They had been travelling for years together, their bond had grown to be even closer than that of sisters, and they would not trade it for anything in the world. Despite their incredible persistence and teamwork, they both had one goal in mind, to find a place that would accept them for them, that would let them in with no judgement, to find a pride of their own, that they could call their own. Yet, their long journey was about to come to an end, after searching for so long, was this finally what they were looking for?
With the sun having risen over the horizon, it illuminated over a small pride of lions in the distance, the rays of light letting them know of the morningβs arrival, the time to play, to train, to hunt. Toph turned towards Mossy, a small smile spreading over her face. Mossy, gave a knowing look, words were unnecessary, they had found it. The perfect home.
