Born to an informal pride that was really more like a loose, small group of lionesses who would come and go through its numbers, Pigeon grew up on the move. Her mother and aunts made their living by collecting various useful things and trading them with prides and other animals besides lions when passing through areas to guarantee themselves safe passage and hunting rights as they traveled.
The merchant group had long avoided the droughtlands due to its instability and lack of resources to trade in, but some of the lionesses were curious when word spread out beyond the droughtlands that they were not quite so ridden with drought as before, apparently due to the return of rain at the alleged direct behest of the new king of the area. Traveling there, the merchants were surprised but pleased to encounter Vast of the Endless Sun and receive his hospitality and easy agreement to trade relations.
Pigeon in particular was very intrigued by the new pride and spent ample time conversing with the pride's lionesses during the merchants' stay. She became quick friends with Morning Glory, False Dawn, and even Queen Misty Morning, and her curiosity about the Sun King only grew with her new friends' and the rest of the pride's positive opinions of him. She found a kindred spirit in First Light in a sense, as many of the pride's mostly-shared beliefs about the Sun seemed self-evident to her when they were explained: as a traveler, there was little more constant in her life than the Sun and the Moon, and the reach and power of the Sun was undeniable when it could cause things like droughts or the dry season in general. The somewhat animate way that Vast spoke of the Sun was foreign to her, but more intriguing than offputting.
Pigeon's mother and the rest of her aunts and companions among the merchants were not at all surprised when she opted to stay in the Sun Kingdom. They left her with well wishes when they went, and Pigeon was pleased to settle into a steady and welcoming new environment, taking on the name Midsummer Morn. She'd never tried her paw at having a proper home before! It sounded quite pleasant.
Spending her childhood playing beneath her mother's paws while she was in the midst of talking over trade deals gave Midsummer a solid grasp on numbers and equivalencies, as well as a keen eye for quality. She is overall a humble lioness and hardly demands indulgence in attention or luxury in her living conditions – living nomadically, there were certainly times when comfort took a backseat to survival – she knows a bad deal when she smells one, and conducts herself intelligently in conversation and transaction alike. She dislikes making hasty promises or implying debts between herself and others, but expresses her loyalty through presence and consistency.
She employs this skill now for the Sun Kingdom's benefit, particularly in the growing pride's political dealings with surrounding prides. She is an invaluable advisor to Vast of the Endless Sun, and quite enjoys getting to share her expertise with him and her fellow lionesses. Unused to staying in one place for so long, she sometimes grows restless within the boundaries of the pride's territory; she is often the first to volunteer to go on a hunt, regardless of the quarry or time of day, and takes to patrolling along the borders of the Kingdom every so often to get out her restless energy.
Though closer to her fellow lionesses than the Sun King when she entered the pride, she warmed up to Vast quickly, and has found herself extremely fond of the cubs in the pride. She has considered asking Vast about occasional trading trips outside of the Sun Kingdom to ease her antsyness, but perhaps she might want to try having a litter before that...?
