Blurry, the Dwarf.
Blurry was born to a different pride than she belongs to now. Her mother was a dwarf like herself, but not valued the same. Soon as Blurry was able to wean off of her mothers milk, she was brought to an unfamiliar place with many other lions, and confusing new scents all around her. Her fragile body was lugged around until a lion from afar caught eyes of her, stopping her father. They spoke for a while, which Blurry was all too tired to understand, barely able to stay awake, the heat getting to her. After a short while, which felt like an entirety to her, she was given to the lion, a pile of golden beetles being exchanged for her. Was that all she was worth to her father? A few measly golden beetles? She wasn't able to worry about how her father sold her off so easily, the tiredness tugging at her eyelids, soon taking over as she fell asleep.
She woke up in an unfamiliar place, it didn't look anything like her original pride, where was she? Not long after she regained her senses, a few cubs ran up to her. They were curious as to why she was so small compared to them, running circles around her, sniffing her, and pawing at her. “Hey! Stop it!” Blurry growled as one of the other cubs pawed at her back leg, they jumped a little as she spoke. “..Sorry! Did I hurt you? I didn't mean to, oh I swear, dont tell my momma, I'm already in enough trouble!” The cub pleaded with her, which earned a snicker of amusement, the cub looked embarrassed. “I’m Daisy, what about you?” Daisy flopped beside Blurry, rolling on her back, stirring up dirt. Blurry thought for a moment before responding to her. “Blurry, and I won't tell your mom, don't worry.” She grinned, standing up and pouncing on Daisy. The two played for hours until Daisy’s mother was calling for her, running off to answer her roars.
Daisy and Blurry grew closer as days passed, soon turning to months, then finally, the two were together for years, until Blurry had turned two and a half years, having her first litter. The sire was of a neighboring pride when she had wandered away from her own. It was a small litter, but one was noticeably different from the others, more like herself than the sire. It was another Dwarf! She grew attached to the one in particular, though she loved all of her cubs equally. She left her cubs with one of the broodmothers before going to find her best friend, Daisy. She wanted to tell her the joys of being a mother, though she had only been one for a few days, she felt like the small cubs were her whole world. Once she had finally picked up the scent of Daisy, she quickened her pace, but her little legs were only able to carry her so fast until she got tired.
Blurry was soon able to catch up to Daisy’s scent, but something was wrong, there was a heavy scent of blood that grew stronger as she got closer to Daisy, a new scent mingling with hers. What was the leader of the pride doing all the way out here? This was the edge of the territory. Blurry got curious, picking up the pace once more. Though, when she had finally reached her friend, she stopped in horror, her small body quivering with fear and grief. The pride leader was standing over Daisy’s lifeless body, his face was all bloody, a clear chunk of Daisy’s neck was missing. It was easy to tell what had happened, just she managed to bring the courage to take a step forward, tears forming at her eyes, not being able to pry them away from the scene that unfolded in front of her, the pride leader’s tail flicked, head snapping backwards to meet Blurry’s horrified gaze. In that instant, every muscle in her body was screaming at her to turn around and get out of there, and she listened! Blood was pounding in her ears as tears flew down her cheek, her legs running as far as they would take her, memories of her life with Daisy flashing before her eyes, not even caring to see where she was going. Once she had finally come to her senses, it was night and she had no clue on where she was at, she had run out of the territory, anywhere was better than being there with that monster.
She instantly stopped in her tracks as her cubs happy squeals sounded in her mind. Her head shot around, looking for them, but they were nowhere to be found, had she imagined that? The fear and sadness was soon replaced by determination for her cubs, she couldn't leave them behind with that monster. She instantly set off once more, following her faint scent trail back to the pride territory, as she arrived, the sun was beginning to rise, she had to be careful. She hid in the bushes, in shaded areas, and even dunked underneath water to hide from pride lions, after all, she had no idea if they were on the pride leader's side or not. She soon neared the nursery, spotting the broodmother she had left her cubs with, she was able to trust her, right? She glanced around before coming out behind a rock, padding up to the broodmother, Pie. “Pie, please tell me you have my cubs? Where are they at?” She rushed out in a panic, earning a confused look at Blurry. “The pride leader just came and took them, he said he was bringing them to you?” As pie spoke, Blurry felt her whole world fall apart, her cubs were probably already dead, there was no point in even going to look from them. She turned around, leaving the nursery after a long moment of silence. Blurry had wandered around for what felt like forever. She was now 5 years old, spending years out in the wild, endlessly wandering the cold, cruel world. What had she done to deserve all of this? Was God cursing her?
Thoughts had flooded her mind, not even noticing as she entered a pride’s territory, getting confronted by a patrolling lioness. The lioness was silent for a moment before frowning, the poor Dwarf was all skin and bones! How long have they gone without a meal? Blurry noticed their worry. ``I promise I didn't mean to enter your territory, ill leave, okay? Please don't hurt me.`` The lioness was taken aback by her words. “Hurt you? My stars, why would I ever hurt you? You look starved, dear! Please, come rest in my territory, the pride will welcome you. You can stay for as long as you like!” Blurry’s eyes widened, /her/ pride? This was the leader of the pride! She swallowed hard, weighing her choices, what if they attacked her if she refused her hospitality? Its better to just follow along for now. Blurry gave the lioness a nod, following behind her as she brought Blurry deeper into her territory, earning a few glances from passing pride members. They neared a cave, stopping as they reached the entrance. The lioness that had brought her roared into the cave, a few lions coming out to greet her, some gathering behind them as well, she didn't like being surrounded like this. “Everyone, I want you to meet..`` The lioness passed, she had never asked Blurry for her name. “..Blurry.” She finished for them, attaining a grin from the lioness. ``Yes, Blurry. This is Blurry, I have welcomed them to the pride to rest and eat. They can stay for as long as they please, even if in the end they want to join.`` She hinted as she spared Blurry a glance, starting to address the lions once more. ``I want you all to get to know her, treat her well.`` As she finished, there were a few glances among the lions before Blurry was completely surrounded! The lions circled her, roaring their own greetings and introducing themselves. Even though Blurry was nervous, and honestly kind of intimated by the crowd, she enjoyed the attention after years being alone.
A long, long time had passed and Blurry had chosen to join the pride. She was now 10 years old, with a new litter of cubs. She swore to protect this one with her life, though there was some trouble during birth, she had two healthy female cubs, both like her. She couldn't help but smile each time she looked at them. Blurry was relaxing in the sun, her cubs nursing on her, kneading at her stomach for more milk. She turned away from the two to admire the forest, eyes widening as she saw a young, tan lioness with emerald green eyes staring at her with a sad smile. It was daisy! Blurry almost teared up, was she imagining things? She couldn't believe her eyes! As she blinked away tears, the lioness mouthed something, fading as the morning fog swept her away. Blurry was taken aback, fighting with tears. A lioness walked up to check on her, face with worry. ``Blurry? Are you alright, is something the matter?” Azure asked, a friend that Blurry had made during the years of her time in this pride. She sniffled, forcing tears back. “Yes, Azure, everything is just perfect, don't worry.`` There was a smile on her face, through her eyes red. She nosed one of her cubs, recalling what the now faded lioness had said.
``I’m glad you’ve found happiness, Blurry. I love you.”
