One day Brond leaves his territory for a routine stroll and comes back with not one, not two, but SIX new lions! He’d happened upon a pride that was downsizing to survive the locust plague, and the lions chosen to leave faced death or exile. Brond brought back as many as he could, offering them a new life in a fertile territory. Enanela (“echo”) was already an older lioness when she joined the Kalahari Pride, and had already raised three cubs. She became the default mother figure for the five young lionesses who joined the pride at the same time she did, and found fulfillment and peace in her new life. And who knows? Maybe she’ll be ready for a fourth cub one day. Her fourth and final cub is Akina, who loves to help her mother look after the younger cubs, and is a great blessing to Enanela in her twilight years. ~As you come near, Enanela wakes up and yawns, then tries to sit on your back and go back to sleep, making you her pillow.
