Lubaya is Adhama’s daughter with Brond. She’s kind of dream come true, because Adhama wanted another little girl. Lubaya means ‘young lioness’ (I think), so it’s pretty basic, but a lovely name.
Her first cub is with Mruki, who takes one look at the infant and decides she’s not his. The cub meets its death in Mruki’s jaws, and Lubaya is inconsolable. She flees to the Hidden Valley Pride with Johari and Mapenzi.
Lubaya proves to be more resilient that anyone, even she herself, thought. She outlives Mruki’s short reign, and even returns home to the Kalahari Pride, despite all the bad memories there. Lubaya immediately sets about making GOOD memories, bearing three more litters with sires of her choice, and finding fulfillment as a broodmother. She never stops mourning for her first child, torn from her suddenly and all too young, but her heart is never empty of love.
Lubaya passes early, before her final litter reaches adulthood. She wasn’t entirely coherent at the end, burning with fever and ranting about Mruki’s ghost being the father of Rukiya and Tandaa (impossible), and seeing him everywhere she looked (possible). Her children and pridesisters do their best to keep her calm and tell her she’s safe, but her last moments are spent exhausted, yelling at things only she can see. Adele the healer said her past traumas caught up to her, and her mind was too weak to rationalize them. Her children bury her mournfully, both hoping she found some peace in the afterlife that she could never find on earth.
